WENTWORTH - Thanks to some government funding, Ski Wentworth will be getting $3.2million worth of upgrades this summer.

The announcement was made Monday in preparation for the Canada Winter Games being held in Nova Scotia Feb. 11-27, 2011.

Were absolutely thrilled. This is going to be the biggest event held in Nova Scotia, said Leslie Wilson, general manager of Ski Wentworth.

This will be a win-win for both the high performance athletes and the general public.

Wilson says Ski Wentworth has been working with the host society for several months in terms of the upgrades and was very excited when the announcement was made official.

Ski Wentworth will be a very busy place this summer. The plan is to have the work started this summer and finished so we can have a test event the year before.

During the Canada Winter Games, Ski Wentworth will be host to the alpine and freestyle skiing events.

On the freestyle side, Wilson said the hill will see new moguls and aerial platform, as well as upgrades to the existing half-pipe.

Improvements will also be made to the racing trail for the alpine events.

Were also going to increase our snow-making capacity, which will help us get more trails open faster.

In total, three levels of government are investing $15million to improve Ski Wentworth, Ski Martock just outside Windsor and 11 other sporting venues in the province.

Ski Martock will see $4.2million worth of upgrades.

Of the $15million, Halifax Regional Municipality will contribute $7million, while the government of Canada and the province have each committed $3million. The host society will contribute the rest.

The capital funding is part of the $31-million investment from federal, provincial and municipal governments.
