NORTH VANCOUVER, B.C. _ A snowboarder missing on popular but rugged Mount Seymour in North Vancouver since Sunday has been found alive, police say.

North Vancouver RCMP Const. Marlene Morton said James William Martin was found about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.

He was last seen in the ski area north of Vancouver on Sunday.

``This is definitely very good news,' said Morton, adding that his overall condition was not known but he was ``coherent' when found by ground searchers.

``We don't know a lot about his condition at this point,' she said. ``I was told he was coherent and he will transported to hospital.'

It was not immediately clear where he was found on the mountain in relation to the ski area, or how he kept warm or found shelter.

``North Shore search and rescue team began a search by foot this morning about 7 a.m.,' said Morton. ``At about 2:30 p.m. they found Jamie Martin alive.'

And, for his mother in Orillia, Ont., that news was a godsend.

``Oh my God,' Debbie Martin told CTV news. ``It is such a miracle. It's the best news that can ever happen.'

Martin was expected to be taken to a nearby hospital and one media outlet reported he had some frostbite.

RCMP said earlier that a vehicle with Ontario plates registered to James William Martin was found Tuesday morning in the mountain parking lot in North Vancouver.

His cell phone and wallet were in the vehicle.

George Zilahi, North Shore search and rescue spokesman, said Martin, 21, had a season's pass on the mountain that was apparently used Saturday and Sunday.

Martin did not show up for work Monday and police were asking anyone who may have spoken to him since the weekend to contact them.

Zilahi said Martin was in the area Saturday but later contacted someone to say he was home.

As much as a metre of new snow fell in the meantime and winds were strong.

The graduate of Orillia District Collegiate and Vocational Institute, was an avid snowboarder and skateboarder.

He found a roofing company in Vancouver that was looking for workers and decided to move west last year.

Mount Seymour is one of three so-called local winter recreation area located across Burrard Inlet from Vancouver. The others are Grouse Mountain and Hollyburn Mountain, where Cypress ski area is located.
