SPRINGHILL - The Springhill High School Golden Eagles earned a split - falling 74-50 to Pugwash High and edging the SHS Alumni 56-52 - in a pair of recent contests.
Karli Boyd and Taylor White both scored 19 points to lift Pugwash to its win over the Golden Eagles on Friday's 'Day of Basketball' at the SHS gym. Leah Crowe scored 12 points and Brittany Barton and Shauna Ryan both had 11 to help the Springhill attack. Meaghan Moore bucketed 10 and Jill Casey, Meaghen Bowers and Kirsten Gogan had a hoop each.
In the annual alumni game, Barton and Ryan both shot a dozen points to lift the present SHS club against 'those that came before them.'
Casey and Gogan both managed seven, while Meaghan Moore finished with six and Sonya MacDonald, Crowe and Bowers each collected four points, and Emily Moore, two. Megan Martin, Kate McMillan and Patti Gilroy sparked the SHS Alumni with 12 points each, while Kathryn MacDonald struck for seven markers.
Meghan MacLeod had four points, with Teesha Symes and Tiffany Hunter added baskets. Former high-scoring point guards Stacey Carter and Theresa Martin were held pointless, as well as forward Felicia O'Brien.
The Golden Eagles next see action Dec. 29th when they participate in the ARHS Vikettes Invitational, along with Oxford and Tantramar Regional High.
