Cumberland County - Protecting the isthmus
AMHERST The Chignecto Game Sanctuary has a key role to play in linking wildlife habitats on both sides of the Isthmus of Chignecto, says the executive director of the New Brunswick branch of the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society.
Roberta Clowater said wildlife like the mainland moose often travel from the game sanctuary to the Canaan Bog north of Moncton and they are often seen in the area of the Tyndal wellfield just outside Amherst.
The Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society is holding a one-day workshop in Sackville on Saturday, Nov. 29, at Mount Allison University to discuss increasing the connectivity between ecosystems in both provinces.
Safety review begins
AMHERST - A consultant has been hired to conduct a safety review of the Cobequid Pass.
Opus International Consultants is a New Zealand-based consulting firm with Canadian operations in Fredericton, N.B. and Victoria, B.C. It also operates in the United States, United Kingdom and Australia.
The company is being asked to take a look at the 44-kilometre toll highway and see if there are any safety issues that need to be addressed.
Hunter re-offers for warden
UPPER NAPPAN - Having spent eight years in the position of warden, Keith Hunter is opting for it again.
"I'm happy in that position and I've enjoyed it very much," Hunter said yesterday.
The warden's position will be filled during today's municipal meeting, and it seems like Hunter is the only councilor eyeing the seat.
Shelley Hoeg, executive assistant to the municipality's chief administrative officer, says she has only heard of Hunter offering for the position, no others.
