DIEPPE, N.B. - Two members of the local Figure Skating Club picked up medals this past weekend.
Jadyn Soehner and Jaycee Hawkes from Amherst travelled to Dieppe to compete against skaters from the Maritimes at the Bank of Montreal Skate Canada sectionals.
After skating their freeskate programs Friday night, Hawkes and Soehner placed second overall in Nova Scotia in peewee A and peewee B respectively.
Jadyn was pleased with her performance and says she exceeded her expectations.
"I did not expect to medal. The competition was tough."
"Both girls did extremely well, if not better than they've been doing in practice," club coach Shelley Polley said.
Some of the higher events have to place in the top four positions at BMO Sectionals to qualify for Easterns, where they must qualify in the top four placements to advance to Canadians.
It was a thrill to see all the different levels of the competitive skating, as Soehner and Hawkes were just transferred last season from Starskate.
With plenty of competitions ahead of them this season, they will be working hard with hopes of returning to BMO sectionals next fall.
