Amherst Regional High School soccer came to an end last weekend at the Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation Division 2 championships, with the boys playing in Brookfield and the girls in Cape Breton.
On Friday, the boys lost their semifinal game against New Watefford-based Breton Educational Centre 2-1.
"We controlled the play for the entire game but we had a hard time getting the ball in the net," Amherst coach Fred Gould said.
Scoring for Amherst was Tyler Gould.
In the other semifinal matchup it was Central Kings taking out the host team, South Colchester, by a 3-0 count.
That set up the bronze-medal game between Amherst and South Colchester.
Amherst was seeking redemption after losing to South Colchester when the two teams recently met at regionals in Amherst.
"We felt we should have won that game so we used that as a bit of motivation," Gould said.
"The boys came out and played hard and we won the game 3-1."
Starting off the scoring for Amherst was Dwayne Ripley, followed up with goals from Josh Coleman and Rick Carvahlo.
In the girls semifinal, it was Amherst losing 4-0 to Central Kings.
In the bronze-medal match Amherst lost to Northeast Kings 2-0.
Many of the soccer athletes will now take to the court to compete in basketball.
