Charlottetown - Pugwash resident Bert McWade was honored at the Atlantic Breeders Crown banquet at Charlottetown last Saturday night when he was presented with the Ron Waples achievement award for his contribution to Maritime harness racing.

McWade, a native of Charlottetown, established the Atlantic Breeders Crown week during his term as vice-president of Atlantic Lottery Corps harness racing division. The annual event sees the top horses in the Maritimes compete for divisional honors.

McWade was presented with the award by Dr. Don Reynolds, dean of the Atlantic Veterinary College.

In racing action, Clayton Stevens of Pugwash drove his four-year-old pacing mare Phightenphilly to a 2:02 victory at Truro Raceway on Monday afternoon while Doug Polley Jr. of Amherst piloted Raceon Star to a 2:03.3 victory at Truro last Thursday night.
