STELLARTON - Carter's Cresting under-14 girls finished their soccer season with a loss, but coach John Rossong said the girls should be proud of the way they play the game.
"The girls have been very classy all year long. They won well and they lost well," Rossong said. "Despite the fact we lost that last game, all the girls are winners."
The team traveled to Stellarton on Wednesday night to play its bronze-medal match against Pictou County United, which was rained out Sunday afternoon.
"Playing three days after the actual provincial tournament was sort of anti-climatic for both teams," Rossong said. "And we played until dusk."
Despite the barriers, Carter's Cresting and Pictou County United finished regulation time tied at 1-1, with Alex Hicks scoring for Carter's in the 70th minute.
The game then went to a shootout, which Pictou County United won 3-2.
"It was a very evenly played game," Rossong said. "Either team could have won it at any time."
Rossong can't say enough about the group of girls he coached this year.
"We had a very strong team this year," Rossong said. "I love how they adopted our system and played as a team."
Rossong said seven of the girls will be returning to under-14 soccer next year and nine will move up to the under-16 system.
