Amherst student has just days to raise $2,100 to fund Canada World Youth trip
Broadening his horizons - maybe
AMHERST - Travelling far from home for the first time is always exciting, but never more so than when you are young.
David Manning, upon graduating from Amherst Regional High School this month, hopes to become one of those travellers.
After his recent acceptance to the Canada World Youth program, Manning has developed a thirst and desire to make his way to a far off land, but only one hurdle stands in his way; money.
"I've raised just over $600," Manning said. "I have another $1,500 to go."
One of the program's requirements is that participants raise $2,100 for the trip.
Manning raised his first $600 the old fashioned way: knocking on doors and asking for donations.
"I'm going to start looking for businesses to sponsor me and on Friday I'm planning a show at Teazers Pub from 8 p.m. to 12 p.m." Manning said.
The show will be a live band performance with Manning playing the acoustic guitar.
Manning has been rushed in the effort to raise funds for Canada World Youth because he came late to the game.
Manning's journey begins June 30.
"First I fly to Montreal for a preparation camp which lasts for two days, then after those two days we travel to Brazil," Manning said.
Manning will travel to Porto Alegre, Brazil with eight other Canadians.
