CAMPBELLVILLE, ON. - World champion pacer Somebeachsomewhere was scheduled to go a workout mile Tuesday morning at Mohawk Raceway to determine if he's fit for his first start of the season, the $100,000 Burlington Stakes on Saturday night.
The three-year-old son of Mach Three was scratched from his first scheduled start at Mohawk on May 17th because of a bruised bone in his right front foot.
Trainer Brent MacGrath of Truro had him out for a training mile last Friday morning and said the colt came out of the 2:14 mile in excellent condition.
"We had him x-rayed again after that mile and he came out of it very well," said MacGrath, who said a decision of whether to start the colt in the Burlington Stakes would be made after the Tuesday morning workout. He plans to go a trip in 1:56 or 1:57.
On Sunday at Truro Raceway, St Pete Star, a four-year-old owned by Paul Gray of Pugwash paced to a 1:55.3 victory, fastest mile of the Maritime racing season.
George Rennison of Nappan won with Big N Gentle in 2:03.
