The deal to purchase a one-third interest in world champion standardbred pacer Somebeachsomewhere is off.

Schooner Stables of Truro disclosed Monday that there will be no sale of any part of Canadas co-winner of the OBrien award as 2007 Horse of the Year.

Schooner Stables had entered into a right of purchase agreement with a New York horseowner to sell 33.3 per cent of the horse while still retaining control and management of the horse. The reported selling price was in the $3-million range.

But when the due diligence period passed last Thursday night and there was no money on the table, Schooner Stables cancel the deal.

Somebeachsomewhere, who earned $812.000 as a two-year-old while winning all six of his races and set a world record of 1:49.3 in winning the $1-million Metro Place, is currently training for his three-year-old season at Truro Raceway by Brent MacGrath. who reported the colt had trained in 2:11 last week.

Somebeachsomewhere has received the highest rating of any three-year-old in North America with noted racing authority Stan Bergstein assigning the colt a rating of 1:47.3, his highest rating ever.

MacGrath, who will train the colt this year, says Somebeachsomewhere is right on schedule to qualify in April-early May. Plans call for the colt to be shipped to Ontario in five weeks time.

The pacers first stake engagement is set for May 17th at Mohawk Raceway in Campbellville, On.

Reg Petitpas of Shediac Bridge, N. B., one of the six partners in the Schooner Stable, said he wasnt upset the deal fell through.

We really didnt plan to sell him, until we received an offer we seriously had to consider. said Petitpas.
