WENTWORTH - Snow Hounds and skiers salivate whenever there's a big snowfall, and they were tripping over their tongues when Wentworth opened for the season last weekend.
"We had a great opening weekend, it was a great crowd," Ski Wentworth General Manager Leslie Wilson said. "There was a lot of snow and a lot of enthusiasm."
Wentworth has a total of nine runs.
"At the present time three of those are man-made groomed," Wilson said. "The rest are natural snow runs."
Wilson said Wentworth hopes to have four more trails groomed by the coming weekend and night skiers will get to cut their teeth on the slopes when the lights are turned on Friday night.
Snowboarders, on the other hand, will have to wait until the new-year to get their fix.
"People are skiing through the half pipe on natural snow but it's not cut yet," Wilson said. "We hope to have the half pipe open sometime in early January."
Cross-country skiers can take advantage of the early start.
"We do have cross-country skiing at the top of the hill and those are open," Wilson said. "Those were groomed but we may have to groom them again."
She recommends cross-country skiers be quite skilled to tackle those upper trails
"They have to ski down the beginner trail, so we recommend it for advanced cross country skiers," Wilson added.
An early jump on the ski season is a nice change for Wentworth.
"Everyone is very excited," Wilson said. "It's great having all this snow around."
