PARRSBORO - Many people are thinking of lost loved ones at this time of year, and a new fund-raising campaign allows them to do so while supporting local young skaters.

The Parrsboro Skating Club is offering memory Christmas ornaments, which people can purchase in memory of a loved one.

The ornament will then be placed on a tree located in the window of House of Yorke on Main Street, and will be available to the purchaser after Christmas.

Christmas is a time to remember loved ones who are no longer with us, so we thought it would be a way to honour them, said club member Lynne Hebb.

The idea was suggested by the family of the late Terri-Lynn Leopold, who was an active member and leader with the club until her death in 2004.

The ornaments are available in silver and gold varieties at a cost of $5 each. Those wishing to purchase an ornament can contact Marlene Patterson-Yorke at 254-3033 or Lynne Hebb at 254-2486. Individual skaters will also be selling them to supporters.

Meanwhile, the club is busy preparing for upcoming events, including its annual Christmas skating show at the Lions Arena on Friday, Dec. 21 at 6 p.m. The theme for this years show will be Country Christmas.

In January the club will be holding registration for its second half of the year, and always welcomes new members, according to Hebb.

The skating club has 22 members this year, under the guidance of coach Deborah Mitton.
