TATAMAGOUCHE Figure skater John Mattatall of Wallace, won overall gold at the Ondrej Nepela Memorial International Figure Skating Competition in Bratislava, Slovenia.
He, along with his partner Mylene Brodeau, of Quebec, took gold in both the senior pairs and free skate programs. For his outstanding performance,
Mattatall, 24, received the Cleves Source for Sports/New Balance male team athlete of the month award.
September saw Nova Scotia athletes at the top of their game in various competitions around the globe.
David Kikuchi of Fall River, earned the Cleves Source for Sports/New Balance male individual athlete of the month award for his outstanding performance at the 2007 World Gymnastics Championships.
Kikuchi placed 20th in the all-around finals and led the Canadian team to an 11th place finish, qualifying them for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
Denise Robson of Dartmouth, received the Cleves Source for Sports/New Balance Female individual athlete of the month award for her 18th place finish in the elite womens division of the Berlin Marathon.
Robson now ranks third overall in Canada.
Rowers Dan Murray and Pat Covey, both of Dartmouth, earned the Cleves Source for Sports/New Balance team of the month award for being the overall winners at the Head of Four Bridges Regatta in Fredericton.
The Cleves Source for Sports/New Balance athlete of the month program is administered by Sport Nova Scotia, whose members are eligible to nominate athletes for the awards.
