Vikings win consolation at U de M tourney

Ben Harrison fired two goals pacing the Amherst Regional High School Vikings to a 3-1 win over J.L.S. High School of Memramcook in the consolation final of the University of Moncton Invitational.

MONCTON (Staff) - Ben Harrison fired two goals pacing the Amherst Regional High School Vikings to a 3-1 win over J.L.S. High School of Memramcook in the consolation final of the University of Moncton Invitational.

Down 1-0 early in the contest, Harrison scored just before the half and then netted the winner early in the second half. Dwayne Ripley made it 3-1.

The Vikings opened the event with a 1-0 loss at the hands of Kennebecasis Valley High to place them in the consolation round.

In their second contest they blasted Evangeline High of Summerside, P.E.I. 7-0.

John Pyke scored the lone goal of the first half for ARHS. Dylan Ripley with three goals, Tyler Gould with a pair and mark Harris also tallied for the Vikings.

Mitchell Wilson had the shutout.

On Saturday morning, ARHS blanked the Moncton High Purple Knights 3-0.

Luke Penny, Ripley and Harrison with a first-half tally, scored for the Vikings.

Wilson recorded his second straight shutout for ARHS.

This propelled them into the consolation final.

The Vikings will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Hants East for a Northumberland District Division II soccer matchup with the Tigers.
