AMHERST (Staff) The fall season of local orienteering kicks off Saturday, Sept. 22, at the Amherst Point Bird Sanctuary.
Three levels of courses will offer something for everyone: beginners, families, the somewhat experienced, and the semi-professional orienteerer.
A brief pre-meet clinic will be offered to any newcomers.
Registration opens at 11 a.m. and the first start will be at noon. Dress for the weather (orienteering is seldom cancelled), bring along friends or family, and, with the aid of a map and compass, explore the Bird Sanctuary. This is an Orienteering Association of Nova Scotia event and standard fees apply.
The next events in the immediate area will be on Oct. 13 and 14 in Wentworth and Debert.
There will be a meet at the Wentworth Hostel on Oct. 13 and a Night-O at Wentworth Picnic Park on Saturday evening, and ending with the Bluenose Classic in Debert on Sunday, Oct. 14.
For more information on these and other orienteering events throughout Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, check the website at www.orienteeringns.ca or call Alice Power at 243-3580.
