Summer sports camp introduces healthy activities

A host of programs, grants and services are being introduced, almost daily, to promote a healthy lifestyle.

A summer sports camp is being introduced for Cumberland County youth to help promote an active lifestyle and positive avenue for youth to gain confidence trough basketball and sport.

The For-Three Summer Sports Camp is hosting an open house on May 19 to explain the mandate of the camp and allow potential campers to meet staff.

The dates for the summer sessions include July 2 to 6, July 9 to 13 and July 16 to 20.

About 20 per cent of the camp time will be spent doing preferred sports and activities, camp co-ordinator Kris Reid said

A sticker system will be used by staff and will be awarded to participants for having a good attitude, working hard, being a leader, being a teammate, showing sportsmanship and going behind the call of duty, he added.

The camp will not only encompass basketball and sports activities, participants will attend a one-hour session per day of classroom time where they will be tutoured on various school subjects.

Electives for the camp include tennis, baseball, ball hockey, soccer and weight training, all conducted by certified instructors.

Phil Scott is the senior basketball director and Paul Sumbu is the mini basketball director

In addition, he camp will employ several students and other sports staff from the area.

Players will have the opportunity to play many sports and train most intensively on their favorite sports.

Soccer, baseball, track and field, tennis, swimming, hockey, boxing and more

A ratio of one staffer for every six to eight players will be employed.

Cost is $120, however only $25 extra per sibling from the same

Family (3 siblings for $170) All activities will be held at the Cornerstone Recreation Centre

Those interested must register by May 31st to qualify for early bird draw.
