The Swift Current Kabos Raiders have now won as many games in the playoffs as they did in the Saskatchewan Bantam AA Hockey League regular season after defeating the Moose Jaw Warriors twice last week.
The Raiders finished with a 3-27-1 record in the regular season but are now 3-1 in the post-season to advance to the third round of the South Consolation Playoffs.
The Raiders scored three unanswered goals to defeat the visiting Moose Jaw Warriors 7-5 Thursday.
Braden Levac scored twice while shorthanded and added an assist to lead the Raiders to the win to open their second-round consolation playoff series.
The Raiders trailed 5-4 midway through the third period before Levac, Mason Pederson and Jonas Sadden all scored to secure the two-goal victory in the two-game, total-goal series.
Cayden Price and Hunter Lamb each had three assists as the Raiders improved to 2-1 in the playoffs. Caleb Stevenson and Pederson each had a goal and an assist. Dayne Stenson and Tyde Hutchinson also scored, while Dryden Smith and Jesse Wellsch added assists.
Saturday, the Raiders put the series away with a 5-2 win in Moose Jaw. They fell behind 2-0 when Chantz Petruic scored twice for the Warriors in the opening 16:48. The Raiders managed only three shots on goal in the first period but Lamb was able to score twice in the final 2:23 of the period to tie the game.
Stevenson scored twice in the second period and Stenson added a goal for a 5-2 lead after two periods that would hold up.
Hutchinson assisted on four of the five goals in the win. Lamb, Wellsch, Brendan Hale, and Callen Boutin all added single helpers as Jeremy Brumwell picked up the win in goal.
Hutchinson and Lamb were both tied for eighth in SBAAHL playoff scoring with 10 points in four games. Stevenson was tied for 11th with eight points
The Raiders will now face the Weyburn Wings in the third round of the consolation playoffs. The Wings had finished third in the South Division in the regular season with a 17-9-5 record, 32 points ahead of the Raiders. They were eliminated from the South Championship Round by the sixth seeded Regina Pat Blues. The Raiders lost 9-5 to Weyburn at home in October and lost 5-4 in Weyburn in December.
The series will Tuesday in Swift Current at 7:15 p.m. at Fairview West Arena and game two will be played Thursday in Weyburn.
