Swift Current Wildcats
The Swift Current Diamond Energy Wildcats dropped a 2-1 shootout loss to the host Notre Dame Hounds Friday.
The Wildcats failed to score on all three of their shootout attempts, while Katelyn Breitkreuz scored for the Hounds to earn the extra point.
The Wildcats led 1-0 after one period on a powerplay goal from Brenna Thomson with an assist from Jessica Pele. Swift Current finished one-for-11 on the powerplay and would allow the tying goal late in the middle stanza when Robin Nimegeers scored shorthanded.
Jasey Book suffered the shootout loss with 20 saves, while Kylee Styles picked up the win 31 saves before stopping Karlie Bell, Pele, and Brooklyn Haubrich in the shootout.
Th Wildcats are now 4-2 in shootouts after opening the season with four straight wins before losing their last two shootouts. They have scored six goals on 36 attempts and allowed four goals on 35 attempts.
The Wildcats dropped to sixth in the Saskatchewan Female Midget AAA Hockey League with a 8-9-4-2 record. Saskatoon, Notre Dame, and Swift Current are all tied with 34 points but Saskatoon holds one game in hand.
The Wildcats will host seventh-place Melville this weekend. They face the Prairie Fire (4-13-1-2) Saturday at 7:45 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. at Fairview Arena with only five games remaining in the regular season.
