Broncos win ninth in a row blanking Kootenay 3-0

Bronco forward Graham Black was unable to convert this scoring chance on Kootenay goaltender Wyatt Hoflin during Swift Current's 3-0 win over the visiting Ice on Wednesday night.

The Swift Current Broncos held the visiting Kootenay Ice to just 14 shots enroute to a 3-0 shutout victory on home ice.

The Broncos now boast a nine game winning streak and now enjoy a 15-8-0-1 record.

Eetu Laurikainen turned aside all 14 shots he saw, and he was busiest in the third period when he faced six shots, while recording his first shutout of the season. Laurikainen is now 9-7-0-1 on the season and boasts two career shutouts.

Swift Current jumped into a 2-0 opening period lead thanks to a pair of late goals. Jay Merkley tipped in his eight of the season with 4:30 left in the opening period, and Graham Black scored his 13th of the year on a shorthanded marker with 1:40 left in the opening frame.

Neither team scored in the middle period, but the Broncos extended their shots on goal advantage to 22-8 after holding the visiting Ice to just three shots on goal.

Coda Gordon rounded out the scoring at the 5:08 mark of the third period with his 13th of the season, and he now leads the Broncos with 31 points (13 goals and 18 points).
