The Swift Current Diamond Energy Wildcats will open the Saskatchewan Female Midget AAA Hockey League.

The Swift Current Diamond Energy Wildcats will be the final team in the Saskatchewan Female Midget AAA Hockey League to open the regular season when they visit the Weyburn Wings for two games this weekend.

The Wildcats played an extensive preseason schedule across three provinces, finishing with five wins, five losses, and three ties. The Wildcats averaged three goals per game and have gotten production from a wide array of players throughout the line-up. Veteran Karlie Bell led the way with eight goals and five assists. Tori Carlson added five goals and six assists. Rookies Kate Scidmore and Merissa Zerr each scored six goals during the preseason.

Rookie goaltender Jasey Book finished with a .910 save percentage, while veteran Brooklyn Weisgerber posted a .899 mark.

The Wings opened the regular season in Prince Albert last weekend with shootout and overtime losses against the Bears.

One change in the SFMAAAHL rules this season awards three points per game. Teams recording a regulation win will be awarded three points in the standings while overtime and shootout wins will result in two points for the victory and one point for the losing team.

Each of the eight teams will play a double home and home against each other resulting in a 28-game schedule. League play concludes in late February with the league champion being crowned in late March.

The Wildcats will play their first six games on the road over the next three weekends, making trips to play the Weyburn Wings, Saskatoon Stars, and Regina Rebels.

The Wildcats will make their home debut on October 23 when the Notre Dame Hounds visit Fairview Arena at 8 p.m.
