AMHERST –The Amherst Regional High School Vikings hockey team welcomed the Bernice MacNaughton Highlanders to the Amherst Stadium in the final game before the playoffs.
The Vikings opened the scoring in the first period but found themselves in a tie with five minutes remaining.
The Vikings came back strong in the second period taking in five goals, scored by Stephen Belyea, Andrew Skinner, Gordon Mitchell, Kirk Hamilton with Skinner Joel Boyle, Matt Beal, Mitchell Maltby and Ryan Hunter all earning assists. The Highlanders were only able to score one goal before heading into the third period, ending the period with a score of 2-6 in favour of the home team.
Beal, Belyea and Mitchell Speight opened the scoring in the third period, taking in the first three goals in the final half of the game with Alex VanSnick, Michael Patterson and Mitchell earning assists. The Highlanders scored two more goals but the Vikings finished strong, scoring two final goals, ending the game with a final score of 11-4 for ARHS.
