SPRINGHILL – The Cumberland County Blues hosted the Glace Bay Miners Friday night at the Springhill arena.

The Blues started off the game in a high note, taking in the first goal of the night from Devon Muir assisted by Gil Murdock and Geoff Burke. Not letting the Blues get too far ahead, the Miners took in their first goal of the night scored by Chris Ross assisted by Brad Pasternak and Brett Simmons.

The Blues ended the first period ahead as Muir took in his second goal of the night assisted by Liam Carr and Tyler Gould.

Coming back into the second period, the Miners evened out the score, taking in their second goal scored by Mitch MacDougall assisted by Ryan Bursey. The Miners then took the lead, taking in another goal scored by RJ Barrett assisted by Ryan Jackson and Tyler Pyke.

Devon Muir proved his team was far from down and out as he took in his third goal of the game, evening out the score. The Miners took back their lead, 4-3, with 3 minutes and 42 second left in the period.

Heading into the third period, Jessie Colburne scored the final goal for the Blues, tying the score and sending the game into over time. Although the Blues fought hard, the Miners defeated them during the shootout, with a final score of 5-4 in favor of the Miners.

The Blues head to Antigonish on Sunday to play against the Bulldogs. Both teams are tied with 10 points and trail the Pictou team by one point as they race for a spot in the playoffs.
