SPRINGHILL – The Cumberland County Blues were off to a rough start Friday night during their home game against the Pictou Scotians.
The teams battled it out on the ice but the Scotians took in the first goal of the night, leaving the blues scrambling to catch up. The Scotians held strong to their lead and took in another goal finishing the first period 2-0. The Scotians outshot the Blues 14-9.
Devon Muir brought in the first goal for the Blues in the second period, bringing the score up to 2-1, still in favor of the Scotians. The Scotians held strong to their lead, taking in another goal from player Brandon Verge. The Blues outshot the Scotians 27-3 in the second period.
Blues player Guy Belliveau had a very successful third period, taking in his very first Junior B goal, taking the score to 3-2. Scotians player Steve MacNeil then scored another goal, bringing the score to 4-2. But the Blues weren’t down and out just yet. Geoff Burke took in a goal for the blues, followed by another goal by Gil Murdock.
The stars weren’t aligned for the Blues as Scotian player Brandon Verge took in the winning goal for the Scotians.
The Blues host Port Hawkesbury Pirates next Friday night at 7:30 p.m. and then travel to Glace Bay on Nov. 3 for a 6 p.m. contest.
