Blues face off against Elks

SPRINGHILL – The Cumberland Blues faced off against the Brookfield Elks Friday night at the Springhill Arena.

The Blues scored the first goal of the night, scored by Mike Mclure, quickly followed by the Elks taking in a goal of their own, scored by Nick Carroll.

Both teams battled out the rest of the first period trying to get another goal. Blues goalie Jesse Cox faced what could only be described as a blitz attack as the Elks took shot after shot on Cox, the goalie blocking each one.

The second period belonged to the Elks as they squashed the tie. Elks player Shane Piercey received the second goal for the team, followed by another goal by Jordan Lauther, bringing the score to 3-1 in favor of the Elks. Ryan Crowe brought in his own goal for the Elks, later followed by a goal from Andrew Kennedy during the power play.

Blues Captain Liam Carr brought in a second goal for the Blues, bringing the final score for the second period to 5-2 in favor of the Elks.

In the third period, Aaron Crocker score another goal for the Blues, taking the score to 5-3. Devon Muir, set up by Tyler Gould, brought in a goal for the Blues but Elks player Cole Baker scored for the Elks, bringing the score to 6-4. With time running out, Paul Gulliver scored the final goal of the night for the Blues bringing the game’s final score to 6-5 for the Elks.

The Blues head to Kentville tonight for their game at 7:30 against the Valley Maple Leafs. Next Friday, the Blues take on the Pictou Scotians.
