TRURO - A two-goal outburst late in the second period was the difference as the Truro Bearcats defeated the Amherst Ramblers 5-2 in Maritime Hockey League Bent Division semifinal series action at Colchester Legion Stadium last night.

With the win, the Bearcats evened the best-of-seven series at 1-1 with Game 3 back in Amherst on Thursday. Game time at the Amherst Stadium is 7:30 p.m.

Kendall MacInnis scored what proved to be the winner when he beat Ramblers' goalie Richard Tingley from the high slot with just under three minutes to go in the second period. Alex Dalley took advantage of another giveaway moments later to restore Truro's two-goal cushion.

Truro came storming from the gate grabbing a 2-0 lead before the game was 10 minutes old. Dylan McGuigan scored on a rebound just 1:10 in while Cal Gloade scored on a point shot on the power play.

Amherst came back to life in the second period with Jamie Bishop scoring on the powerplay 6:45 into the period with Ryan Matheson and Brandon Street adding assists. Justin Matthews tied the game at 2-2 when he took a pass from Mitch O'Neil behind the net. Jeff Krichew added the other assist.

The Ramblers lost forward Shane O'Byrne in the first period when he stumbled and fell as he was checked by Ryan Moore and did not return.

Brandon MacLean was lost after the first period when he and Truro's Jordan Cox each received fighting majors and game misconducts.

Travis Moore added a nifty nickel for the Bearcats in the last minute.

Shots on goal were 32-21 in favour of Truro.
