Ramblers win away

BRIDGEWATER – The Ramblers beat the CIBC Wood Gundy Lumberjacks on Bridgewater’s home ice tonight, 5-2.

“A big win,” said Coach Bottomley.

The boys had a slow scoring start this evening. The Lumberjacks put up the only goal in the first period. But then Amherst gathered steam. Trevor Layton scored at 2:50 in the second and Jamie Bishop at 5:45. No response from Bridgewater.

Kody Orr struck first in the third, with a short-handed goal at 5:28. Finally an answer from Bridgewater at 6:32 on the powerplay. But it was all Amherst after that: Brandon Street at 7:23 and Justin Matthews at (insult to injury) 19:52.

Jesse Cox was in goal for the Ramblers, stopping 31 of 33 shots. The Ramblers scored five times out of 48 chances on Billy Clarke, netminder for the defeated team.

Bridgewater Arena had a crowd of 577. Jamie Bishop was the first star of the game, and Trevor Layton the second.

The Ramblers are at home Saturday against the Weeks Crushers. First place is on the line, said Bottomley.

The Ramblers who have games in hand over the Yarmouth Mariners, Weeks Crushers and the Metro Marauders will have to be in top form and win more than their opponments to remain and stay in first place. They have 10 games remaining in regular season play. I do like their chances this season. Hope there is a good turnout at home tonight to cheer the young team to victory. Great to see Jamie Bishop and Trevor Layton getting 1st and 2nd star in Bridgewater with the 5-2 victory over the Lumberjacks. GO RAMBLERS GO.
