The boys are back...but looking for a win
AMHERST â The Amherst Ramblers began 2012 with an Amherst Stadium loss to the Yarmouth Jr A Mariners, 4-2. The loss brings the Mariners into a tie for first place, with Amherst, in the Bent Division.
Jim Bottomley, head coach of the Ramblers, said the loss was disappointing, but âthey kept working and didnât quit.â
The Mariners struck first and fast, with a goal just 40 seconds into the first period by Morgan Mullen. It didnât take long for Amherst to answer, though: Jordan Escott placed one in the net at 3:25 on a power play. Zack Henry ensured the Mariners went into the first intermission with a lead, though, scoring for the Mariners at 5:32.
The lead continued in the second period. The Ramblers stayed just a point behind until 17:02, when Matt Tomah scored for Yarmouth.
Yarmouthâs lead was cemented when Colin Campbell scored at 4:35 in the third period, bringing the total to 4-1. The Ramblers wouldnât go down without a fight, however. On a power play, at 13:54, Ryan Matheson put in Amherstâs final goal.
The game was attended by 720 spectators.
