AMHERST – The Amherst Ramblers began 2012 with an Amherst Stadium loss to the Yarmouth Jr A Mariners, 4-2. The loss brings the Mariners into a tie for first place, with Amherst, in the Bent Division.

Jim Bottomley, head coach of the Ramblers, said the loss was disappointing, but “they kept working and didn’t quit.”

The Mariners struck first and fast, with a goal just 40 seconds into the first period by Morgan Mullen. It didn’t take long for Amherst to answer, though: Jordan Escott placed one in the net at 3:25 on a power play. Zack Henry ensured the Mariners went into the first intermission with a lead, though, scoring for the Mariners at 5:32.

The lead continued in the second period. The Ramblers stayed just a point behind until 17:02, when Matt Tomah scored for Yarmouth.

Yarmouth’s lead was cemented when Colin Campbell scored at 4:35 in the third period, bringing the total to 4-1. The Ramblers wouldn’t go down without a fight, however. On a power play, at 13:54, Ryan Matheson put in Amherst’s final goal.

The game was attended by 720 spectators.

HAPPY NEW YEAR, to all the Rambler players, coaches aqnd valuaqble fans. I hear a lot of complaints about certain players on the Ramblers from certain fans. One valuable point is that the Ramblers play in the strongest division(bent), the second place team in the (meek) division would be in 6th spot in our division according to the points acquired thus far. I believe that Escott is one of the best players one the Ramblers, he is tied in point with Street with 41, followed by Smith with 33. For those to say that Escott does not pass, I have to strongly disagree, Escott has scored 16 goals and set up 25, which means he has to pass the puck to get an assist. The team counts on Escott to get the big goals, be it him or one of his linemates. Now he is on with two differetn wingers and as I noticed during last night's game vs Bridgewater, this line didn't start to click until the third period. I expect a better performance from Escott's line today in Truro. It is a sad day when certain people start to criticize one of the RAMBLERS best players. I am sure that their coach JIMBO put the new players on with Escott to provide a better goalscoring punch. BEST OF LUCK TODAY IN TRURO. "GO RAMBLERS GO"
