AMHERST - They came close, but the Cumberland County Credit Union Ramblers Midget A girls hockey team didn’t repeat as provincial champions last weekend at Amherst Stadium.
“The girls were pretty disappointed because they would have liked to have won again this year,” Midget A coach, Kathleen Johnson, said. “But there’s no shame in a three-way tie in the round-robin, it’s just too bad our points didn’t help us out a little better.”
Cumberland County went into the final game against the Western Valley Vixens with a chance to make it into the championship game if they kept their goals-for up, and their goals-against down, but their 4-1 win wasn’t enough to make the jump into the final.
Johnson said she’s very happy with how the girls played.
The Ramblers lost their first game 4-0 to Cole Harbour, beat Cape Breton County in their second game by a score of 4-3, and then beat the Glace Bay Miners 3-1 in their third game.
Three veterans, Jenna Gogan Emily Wainwright and goaltender Michelle Anderson are wrapping up the hockey careers after this year.
