BROOKLYN - The series went to a fifth and final game, but in the end it was the Avon River Rats defeating the Oxford Tim Horton Colts 7-2 to win the best-of-five Nova Scotia Junior C Hockey League series three games to two Thursday night in Brooklyn.

Every game of the series was won by the home team. Avon took a 2-0 lead in the first two games but the Colts came back and tied it up 2-2 in Oxford, only to lose the last game in Brooklyn.

Colts head coach Paul Atkinson said the River Rats were the better team on Thursday night.

“Their quick 5-0 lead in the first period did us in,” Atkinson said. “Although we lost game five we are very proud of our players as they fought back from a 2-0 series lead. Our organization is headed in the right direction.”
