AMHERST - Playoff hopes for the Amherst Ramblers faded Saturday night when the home team dropped a 5-3 decision to the Bridgewater Lumberjacks in front of a packed house at the Amherst Stadium.

Despite a two goal effort from Justin Matthews, including one with less than a minute on the clock, the Ramblers could not pull off the comeback. Andrew Wigg of Bridgewater sealed the deal at 19:42 of the third period.

Brandon Street also scored for Amherst, with assists coming from Mitchell O'Neill, Nick Brown, Robert Davis, Trevor Layton and Street.

Matt Stoddard led the Lumberjacks in scoring with two goals, while singles came from Michael Crawley, Tyler Noseworthy and Wigg.

The victory earned Bridgewater a playoff spot.

Great comments from all interested parties on this means. FYI the mini series between Metro Marauders and Bridgewater is now tied at 1 game apiece with the deciding game being played in Metro's rink(Ibelieve) tomorrow. Yes we are all now wishing the best for the Pictou team as they have a large number of Rambler bi-products on their roster.

Snowman,I'm not sure who you are trying to fool or if you really have no hockey knowledge whatsoever but your post could not be farther from the truth. Pictou not only picked up their game after the trade deadline but it was Escott and Schembri who secured the 1st place bent title ever for Pictou with the points they collected. If you want people to believe that Amherst played that well then I guess you had not noticed that Amherst was out shot in almost all their games sometimes by 61 to 23, usually 20's to 40's. Also if you want to call it such a successful season you have to factor in that Amherst had the easiest schedule down the stretch and had to take the worst place team Dieppe into over time to get it's last win. I'm in awe that people actually think Jeff Lewis had a system and that Amherst finishing the year in 9th place is something positive .

to reply to doug kenny about my post not correct i would like to go father to say pictou were 10 and 6 befor trade in 16 games and 10 and 6 after trades and 3 of those losses came to the 3 basement teams bridgewater, metro, and amhearst. i know that amhearst were outshot but you can,t forget the goaltender he also is part of the team.they traded for him to rememer good trade or what ,i think so. i am not saying this to knock pictou as a matter a fact im cheering for thembut i still say amhearst played as well as they could with the players they had. you can,t knock a coach when he get,s the most out of his players and that,s what he did. don,t forget this is the direction the president wanted to go in for this year remember .

something to think about is the fact that amhearst played really well after the trades and we know why they were made. pictou however did not pick up thier game as they should have and have struggled as far as i,m concerned. it seem like amhearst found some chemistry after the trade. they gave it a good shot with a young team. looks good for next year and i commend lewis for doing a good job.

In Crocker We Trust..... NOT. LOL. Put a competitive team on the ice and the Amherst Stadium could have 1500+ attendance every Saturday night. This is not going to happen with Crocker at the helm. Some times change is good and this is the time for CHANGE!!!!!!!!! GET ER DONE!!!!!

CONGRATULATIONS to Corey Crocker and the Ramblers for finishing 9th place out of a possible 11th. How dare a lot of people think we wouldn't make the playoff after the fire sale eh Corey. It's time for a change, we've had enough embarrassing years under his reign.

despite the loss i think the ramblers played a very good game and it could have went either way.for a young team they showed great character and and i can,t help but think that next year the future looks very bright .jeff lewis absolutely deserves to coach this team again looking at the run they had to make it in to the playoffs and the way they conducted themselves.i also noticed a big disipline improvement from the first part of the year.good job lewis and rambelers.

Well as many predicted it came down to the final game for these two teams to make the play-off mini series. Amherst gave it allhowever came out on the short end of a 5-3 game. Fan support was exceptional, with the pink in the rink participants taking front stage (so to speak). Can't wait for next season to begin. All you loyal Rambler fans, enjoy the upcoming Spring/Summer weather and be ready for a promising season for these young Ramblers in 2011-2012.

I hope to see some coverage on the fact that is a "Pink in the Rink" event that was in support of Breast Cancer Research. The ice was pink as well as the jersey's and although we heard the press was there, it would be a sin if the NSCC students hard work to fill the rink for the final, regular season game was not highlighted. There were over 2200 in the building and we made Amherst history by painting the ice surface pink, the players wear sporting red jersey's and socks, and the breast cancer survivor, Debbie Wessell, was the individual who dropped the ceremonial puck.

Let’s straighten something out right here, right now …. The Lumberjacks didn't end Rambler's playoff hopes, Crocker did!! Three highly respected community members called for the GM to be removed in an editorial to this paper a few months back and now it is time for action. Time for the executive to act!! Cory Crocker is not a coach, he is not a GM and that is not necessarily a bad thing for Crocker himself. Not everybody is cut out to be an NHL’er and not everyone is cut out to be a coach. Dan Cleary of the Detroit Red Wings is a great hockey player and had he not made it to the NHL, he too, may not have been a great coach or GM. PLUS, Crocker has had his go at it, promises upon promises, rebuild upon rebuild ….. we are all tired and weary of the excuses – Crocker is the worn out retread the team can no longer afford to run on,,,,,,,we need a new GM as well as a restructure behind the bench. The Amherst community and the team players deserve better than five years of continuously deteriorating performance. I vote that our first post-season trade be Crocker for future considerations. (I mean for the future of our club)

Just think, what it could have been like, if the plug was not pulled on the team. With an Eric, Chuckie, Jordan, Jeremy etc. no question of making the playoffs, just how far may they go. GM pulled the plug too soon. As for the coach, in my opinion, he was in over his head. Better suited for the midget or bantam leagues. His inability to communicate professionally to his players and not keeping his "own" rules leaves much to be desired. Finally, the GM and Coach failing to have coaches for all positions at the Jr "A" level, show they are not capable of running a "developmental" junior franchise.
