TRURO – The Truro Bearcats look to get back in the win column Sunday night when they host the Pictou County Weeks Crushers.
The Bearcats have been held off the score sheet while losing a pair of weekend games in the Maritime Junior Hockey League.
Truro (24-15-0-3) lost 1-0 Friday in Yarmouth (26-19-1-0) before dropping a 3-0 decision Saturday night to league-leading Woodstock (34-6-2-4) in front of 552 fans at Colchester Legion Stadium.
Patrick Ryder scored the game-winning goal last night 2:44 into the contest to propel the Slammers to victory. Woodstock scored a pair of goals in the third period, including one into the empty net, to ice the victory.
Truro out shot their opponents 31-23 but was 0-for-7 on the power play.
Former Bearcats Alex Scola turned aside all 31 shots for the shutout while Kirk Rafuse made 21 saves in the loss. Scola was named the top star of the game.
Colin Campbell scored the lone goal of the game Friday for the Mariners in front of 930 fans. Charles Grant made 26 saves for the shutout while Spencer Scott was tagged with the loss despite a 43-save performance.
The Maurice Bent Division-leading Crushers (27-13-1-3) come to Truro after losing 4-3 to the Slammers Friday in Woodstock.
Game time is 7 p.m. at Colchester Legion Stadium.
