TRENTON - The Cumberland County Blues advanced to the second round of the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League playoffs with a 6-5 victory over the Pictou County Scotians Sunday night, winning the best-of-seven series in four straight.
Jordie Shaw was the hero for the Blues, scoring the series-clincher with 45 seconds left in the third period.
Dave Burke, Murray Bavis, Seth Crowe, Zach Carson and Cody Roach had the other goals for Cumberland, and Andrew Court made 26 saves in goal.
"We talked before the game about finishing teams off when they're down," Blues head coach Dave Hyatt said. "Our power play struggled most of the series but gave us three goals tonight, and we're happy that we're moving on."
In Game 3 on Friday, Cumberland defeated Pictou County 4-2 in Springhill. Jared Wilson, Jeff Deruelle, Burke and Zach scored for the winners. Court stopped 24 shots.
Cumberland will take on the Strait Pirates in the best-of-seven Sid Rowe Division final. Strait beat the Antigonish Bulldogs 5-3 to wrap up that series in five games.
Game one of the Division final goes Friday, Mar. 12, at 7:30 p.m. at the Richard Calder Arena in Springhill, followed by game two on Sunday, Mar. 14, at 5 p.m. in Port Hawkesbury.
The third game is played Friday, Mar. 19, in Port Hawkesbury, with the Blues returning home for game four on Sunday, Mar. 21.
