CAMPBELLTON, N.B -- The Ramblers' top line of Justin Matthews, Brandon Street and Jeremy Barron racked up nine points in a 4-3 victory over host Campbellton Tigers on Friday night in Maritime Junior A Hockey League play.
Matthews was in on every goal for the winners, scoring twice and adding two assists to give him 48 points in 42 games. Street added a goal and two helpers, and Barron recorded two assists. Drew McLaughlin also scored for Amherst, which led 2-1 after the first period and 3-2 after two. Jon Waye made 25 saves to earn the victory in goal.
The Ramblers record improves to 18-23-1-1. Amherst stays four points ahead of the Yarmouth Mariners in the race for the final Bent DIvision playoff berth. Yarmouth knocked off the Bent-leading Truro Bearcats 4-1 on Friday. The Ramblers are within two points of the Halifax Lions for fourth after the Lions lost 9-3 to the Woodstock Slammers on Friday, while the Bridgewater Lumberjacks moved two points clear of Halifax for third with a 5-2 decision over the Dieppe Commandos.
Amherst visits the Miramichi Timberwolves (26-14-1-0) on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
