SPRINGHILL ?- The Cumberland County Blues are still on a winning streak in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League. It's just a smaller one now.
The Blues couldn't reach 20 wins in a row, falling 5-4 in a shootout to the Strait Pirates in Port Hawkesbury on Friday, but rebounded to wallop the host Antigonish Bulldogs 10-0 on Sunday night.
On Friday, Cumberland couldn't hold on to a 4-2 third-period lead. Cody Roach picked up a pair of goals and an assist to pace the Blue on offence, and Ryan Oakley contributed three assists. Zach Carson chipped in with a goal and an assist, and Jesse Colborne also scored.
Andrew Court made 28 saves in the Cumberland goal.
On Sunday, Roach and Seth Crowe racked up a goal and five assists apiece, and Carson netted a hat trick.
Ryan Smith and Matt Noiles added a pair of goals apiece, and Geoff Burke a single. Tyler Ferdinand recorded the shutout, stopping 19 shots.
The Blues led 2-0 and 8-0 at the intermissions.
"Good teams don't have losing streaks and play better after a loss, so it was good to see our kids respond the way they did," Blues coach Dave Hyatt said.
Cumberland dressed just 14 skaters last night, and lost defenceman Cole Wood to a concussion after he took an elbow to the head. He joins Murray Bavis (knee), Brendan Grimes (groin), Jordie Shaw (groin), Dave Burke (shoulder) and Justin Landry (shoulder) on the injured list.
The Blues have wrapped up first place in the Sid Rowe Division, and are nine points up on the St. Margarets Bay Ducks for first overall. Cumberland has six games left and St. Margarets Bay has seven.
"The goal is still to get first overall, but the big thing now is to try and get everyone healthy for the opening game of the playoffs," Hyatt said.
Cumberland will get a chance to avenge that loss to the Pirates when Strait visits the Richard Calder Arena in Springhill on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
