Goalies from each playoff game throughout the 11th annual Harrison's Parrsboro Minor Hockey Tournament were awarded the Gordie Strong Top Goalie Award over the past two weekends.
One goalie from each playoff game was chosen for this new memorial award honouring Gordie Strong, who was an avid hockey player for the Old Timers Hockey Team in Parrsboro.
Old Timers player Gerry Boutilier made the four presentations honouring his fellow teammate, who lost his battle with cancer earlier this year.
The following top goalies who received the award are: Grayson McCrindle (Parrsboro Peewee Predators,) Kirsten Sentner (North River Girls Midget Flames,) Alex Taylor (Bedford Bantam Blues) and Corbin Crouse (Eastern Shore Midget Mariners.)
"Gordie was a big part of this arena, as a player, a coach, a builder and also a long standing Lions member," Boutilier said. "Being a goalie himself for the Old Timers Hockey Team, Gordie would have been pleased to know this award was given out."
Following are the results for the midget and bantam playoffs this past weekend; Bedford bantam Blues won against Chebucto bantam Atlantics 3-0, and the Cumberland midget Grinders won against the Eastern Shore midget Mariners 2-1. The results from the midget Girls Division and the PeeWee division from the previous weekend were: the Parrsboro peewee Predators lost to the Halifax peewee Hawks 5-0, and the North River Midget Flames lost to the Sackville midget Flyers (score unavailable).
The overall tournament had a good turnout," Parrsboro Minor Hockey vice-president Sam McCrindle said.
