AMHERST -- The Ramblers (11-12-0-1) got by the Dieppe Commandos (7-15-0-1) 4-3 tonight in Maritime Junior A Hockey League action at the Stadium.

Following is the live transcript.

6:30 p.m. -- Teams out for the warmup. Ramblers have 21 skaters out there including goaltenders, one more than the maximum that can dress for the game, so someone will be a late scratch. Scratched for Dieppe is Patrick Lanteigne.

Referee tonight is Steve Starzomski.

Starting goaltenders are Jon Waye for Amherst and Mario Babineau for Dieppe.

Trevor Layton is the late scratch for Amherst, apparently still having problems with the high ankle sprain suffered earlier this month.

7 p.m. -- Puck has dropped and we're underway. First line for Amherst is Barron-Chipman-Orr, with Smith and Boudreau the usual defensive pairing.

7:01 p.m. -- Other line combos are Bragg-Estey-Matthews, Carson-Coleman-Bissonnette and O'Neill and O'Byrne as the spares. Other defensive pairings are McLaughlin-Matheson and Mercer-Herrett, with Mathieu as the seventh man.

7:04 p.m. -- Pretty slow start so far for both sides.

7:06 p.m. -- Ramblers are on the board on a weak defensive effort by Dieppe. Josh Coleman strips the puck from a defender, and is left all alone in front to slide a backhander past Babineau at 4:27. Assist to Simon Bissonnette. A gift goal that the home side will gladly accept. 1-0 Ramblers

7:08 p.m. -- And now an Amherst power play, as Marc Roper goes for cross-checking at 5:08.

7:10 p.m. -- Weak penalty call by Starzomski. Scott Bragg with good forechecking and a clean hit in the Dieppe zone with the puck in the area, and the call is interference at 6:59.

7:11 p.m. -- Dieppe now on the PP.

7:12 p.m. -- Ramblers with a lot of running around in their own end, but Waye there to bail them out.

7:13 p.m. -- Adam Chipman with some good forechecking on the PK and it results in a Dieppe penalty. Luc LeBlanc goes for cross-checking at 8:48.

7:14 p.m. -- Amherst with the man advantage now for 1:49.

7:16 p.m. -- Great goalmouth pass from Chipman to Matthews, but he can't connect on the one-timer with half an open net to shoot at.

7:17 p.m. -- Penalty over.

7:17 p.m. -- Dieppe ices the puck to get a change of bodies. 8:40 left in the period. Shots 9-7 Ramblers.

7:18 p.m. -- Proof of the Commandos lack of touch around the net. Morgan Nicolas with a glorious opportunity at the edge of Waye's crease, but a backhander goes three feet wide.

7:20 p.m. -- Commandos agitator Chuckie Schembri goes hard into Waye and Yohann Mathieu and Brandon Mercer pounce on top of him, with Mercer laying in right hands to a prone Schembri as Mathieu sits on him, with Waye at the bottom of the pile. Waye doesn't seem hurt on the play. Starzomski with the notebook out, so this will take a couple of minutes. 7:10 left in the period.

7:24 p.m. -- Nothing on the scoreboard, so the penalties must even out. Nothing announced yet as Starzomski explains his call to both benches.

7:26 p.m. -- It's a five-on-four for Dieppe, as Mercer got an extra two.

7:28 p.m. -- Commandos negate their PP, as Derek Smith was slashed coming through the neutral zone. Denis Lagace goes at 13:42.

7:28 p.m. -- Schembri got five for charging and a game misconduct, Dieppe's Morgan Nicolas gets a double minor (aggressor and roughing), Mercer and Scott Bragg two apiece for roughing, and Mathieu a misconduct. Mercer got off lightly, as he threw at least a half-dozen punches.

7:31 p.m. -- More Dieppe penalty trouble, with Ryan MacDonald getting whistled for roughing at 15:14. Five-on-three for Amherst for 28 seconds.

7:32 p.m. -- Lagace's minor over.

7:33 p.m. -- Matthews misses another one-timer, this on a nice feed from Ryan Matheson.

7:33 p.m. -- Matheson has to trip a Dieppe defender after coughing up the puck at the Dieppe blueline to prevent a two-on-one, so the man advantage is over at 16:44.

7:35 p.m. -- Ramblers catch a break. Waye has the puck under his pads, and it just squirts free as Starzomski blows the play dead with a Dieppe attacker parked at the side of the net.

7:36 p.m. -- Waye flashes the glove to snare a second-chance opportunity.

7:37 p.m. -- More Dieppe pressure and we're tied, as Waye can't get a glove on this rebound. Josh Carter with the goal at 18:11, from Luc LeBlanc and Chris Ingersoll. Power-play goal. 1-1

7:38 p.m. -- Ramblers shorthanded again. Eric Boudreau to sit for interference at 18:39.

7:39 p.m. -- In the final minute.

7:41 p.m. -- Derek Smith doubled over in pain after finishing a check and is doubled over as he skates to the Ramblers bench. Didn't look too bad skating off at the end of the period, though.

7:41 p.m. -- Period over. Shots 17-11 Dieppe.

After 20 minutes -- It should be 2-0 or 3-0, but the Ramblers couldn't convert their chances and ran into penalty trouble, allowing Dieppe back into this contest. Amherst really needs a convincing win right now, and the Commandos should be the team to do it against, but not burying this team early could come back to haunt the home side.

7:55 p.m. -- Second period underway. Smith back out there. Dieppe with 38 seconds left in the man advantage.

7:56 p.m. -- Waye with another great save, kicking out a pad on a point shot seconds after Boudreau's minor expires.

7:58 p.m -- Scott Bragg with a shoulder into Dieppe defenceman Marc Roper, and Roper goes off not moving his left arm.

7:59 p.m. -- Mathieu out of the box after serving his misconduct.

8 p.m. -- Another head-scratcher from Starzomski. Zach Carson with what looked like a clean check in front of the Amherst bench, but Starzomski calls it boarding at 3:55.

8:02 p.m. -- Waye loses sight of the puck in traffic, and it bounces right to Josh Carter at the side of the net, and he deposits it home before Waye can get his bearings again at 4:48. Assist to Ryan MacDonald. 2-1 Commandos

8:04 p.m. -- Amherst on the PP, with Chris Ingersoll off for slashing at 5:43. Looked like it was Justin Matthews who slashed a Dieppe defender while chasing a loose puck. Perhaps a make-up call for the Carson minor.

8:06 p.m. -- Ramblers have tied it. Kody Orr with a great rush to establish position in the Dieppe zone. Puck comes back to Ryan Matheson, and his point shot hits a Dieppe defenceman battling Orr in front of the net and goes in at 6:39. Matheson's first point of the season, and Orr with the assist. 2-2

8:07 p.m. -- Amherst on the PP again. Morgan Nicholas goes for roughing at 7:22.

8:07 p.m. -- Ramblers with the lead back, as Adam Chipman is left unchecked at the side of the net at 7:48. Assists to Justin Matthews and Jeremy Barron. Barron's first point in six games. Power-play goal. 3-2 Ramblers

8:08 p.m. -- Ramblers have found an extra gear after the offensive flurry. Both teams starting to pick up the pace.

8:11 p.m. -- More solid work from Waye, getting the paddle down on a one-timer attempt from Dieppe's Ryan MacDonald.

8:13 p.m. -- Kody Orr with a great feed from Adam Chipman and is all alone on the doorstep, but Babineau shuts the five-hole.

8:14 p.m. -- 7:22 left in the period. Shots 7-7 in the second.

8:16 p.m. -- Drew McLaughlin just misses catching a Dieppe player in the trolley tracks, but manages to separate the blade of the Commandos player's stick from the shaft on the play. Morgan Nicolas then catches Shane O'Byrne with his head down and deposits him to the ice.

8:18 p.m. -- Good shift from the Chipman-Barron-Orr line, generating a couple of scoring chances.

8:20 p.m. -- Dieppe with the PP, as Mitchell O'Neill will sit for slashing at 16:14.

8:23 p.m. -- Ramblers kill off the minor.

8:24 p.m. -- In the final minute.

8:26 p.m. -- Period over. Shots 12-10 Amherst in the frame, 27-23 Dieppe through two.

After 40 minutes -- Ramblers found some life after the Orr rush to set up the Matheson goal, and carried the play until the O'Neill minor. Though the Ramblers have stayed disciplined for the most part, what Starzomski will and won't call is anybody's guess. It hasn't been chippy hockey when he's put the whistle away, and hopefully the ticky-tack calls will be kept to a minimum the rest of this game. Waye having a tremendous game tonight -- if he can see it, he'll stop it.

8:41 p.m. -- Third period underway.

8:42 p.m. -- Waye is upended by Dieppe's Andrew Taylor, who was knocked down by Eric Boudreau, and Boudreau gets called for interference. The Amherst bench argues the call, and it's a five-on-three at 31 seconds.

8:45 p.m. -- Ramblers kill it off.

8:47 p.m. -- Dieppe still with momentum out there, and the Ramblers need a spark. Got to be tough, though, when you never know when Starzomski's hand will go up. Protecting a one-goal lead in a game your team absolutely has to win is tough enough without having to worry about every little thing being called.

8:50 p.m. -- Dieppe's Justin Legere called for slashing at 6:28.

8:52 p.m. -- Now a five-on-three, as the Commandos' Ryan MacDonald gets two for roughing at 7:03. Ramblers with a golden opportunity here.

8:53 p.m. -- Ramblers with all kinds of buzz around the net, but can't finish, even with a Dieppe defender minus his stick for several seconds.

8:53 p.m. -- First minor is over. 28 seconds left in the second.

8:54 p.m. -- Dieppe back at full strength.

8:55 p.m. -- 10:22 to go. Faceoff to Babineau's left. Shots 6-4 Dieppe in the period.

8:57 p.m. -- Zach Carson goes off for a check to the head at 10:46, which also means an automatic 10-minute misconduct. Jeremy Barron serving the minor, the second time he's had to do that in the period as he served the bench minor, and he's not too thrilled about that, slamming the penalty box door on the way in.

8:58 p.m. -- Commandos have tied it as Waye couldn't see a screened shot. Ryan MacDonald with the tip-in at 11:39. Assist to Dillen Theriault. 3-3

9 p.m. -- Jean-Marc Leger with a seemingly obvious trip of Jeremy Barron in the neutral zone, but no call.

9 p.m. -- Possibly a make-up call from Starzomski, as Luc LeBlanc is whistled for hooking at 13:00. He yaps about it, and gets 10 more.

9:03 p.m. -- Ramblers with good pressure, but can't finish.

9:03 p.m. -- Some hard work by Simon Bissonnette to create traffic in front of Babineau and the Ramblers are back in front, as Babineau never saw Scott Bragg's wrister from the slot. Bissonnette credited with the goal, from Ryan Matheson and Bragg. Power-play goal at 14:40. 4-3 Ramblers -- Amherst's first four-goal game since the 4-3 win over Truro on Nov. 6, and only the second time with more than three goals in a game since September.

9:07 p.m. -- 3:12 left. Hold your breath and see if Starzomski will let them play this out.

9:08 p.m. -- 2:15 to go. Faceoff to Waye's left.

9:10 p.m. -- 1:03 remaining and the faceoff in Amherst's end. Dieppe takes its timeout.

9:11 p.m. -- Final minute. Babineau on the bench following the timeout.

9:12 p.m. -- Adam Chipman with three chances to get the puck out of the zone, but doesn't shoot it hard enough. Puck deflected out of play at the Amherst bench with 19.4 seconds left.

9:13 p.m. -- Ramblers just miss the empty net and ice it with 1.3 seconds to go.

9:13 p.m. -- Game over. Ramblers win it. Shots 13-10 Dieppe in the third, 40-33 Commandos for the night.

Three stars -- 1. Jon Waye, Amherst; 2. Scott Bragg, Amherst; 3. Josh Carter, Dieppe.

Final thoughts -- Starzomski had his fingerprints all over this game, with six of the seven goals scored on the power play. It came down to who could capitalize at the end, and it turned out to be the Ramblers, who deserve credit for not letting Starzomski's inconsistency get the best of them for the most part. The bigger picture was to stop the bleeding and get two points against a team the Ramblers should beat on a consistent basis, and thanks to a big effort from Waye and contributions from several sources on offence, mission accomplished.

Ramblers head to Yarmouth tomorrow to round out November, then face the 20-0-0-1 Woodstock Slammers in a home-and-home beginning Wednesday in New Brunswick and ending a week from tonight in Amherst.
