AMHERST -- The Ramblers (10-9-0-1) blanked the Dieppe Commandos (6-12-0-1) 3-0 tonight in Maritime Junior A Hockey League action at the Stadium. Amherst's losing streak ends at three games.

Following is the live blog transcript.

6:30 p.m. -- Teams out for the warmup. Ryan Matheson (concussion) and Trevor Layton (high ankle sprain) not dressed for Amherst tonight. Jonathan Pardy still rehabbing his shoulder after offseason surgery. Matheson did not play in Summerside on Friday, either. Jesse Colborne has been called up from the Cumberland County junior B Blues to fill in for Layton, and the Ramblers will dress six defencemen. Colborne has eight goals and four assists to go with 22 penalty minutes in 13 games for Cumberland County this season.

Scratched for Dieppe is Jean-Marc Leger.

Starting goaltenders are Jon Waye for Amherst and Robert Steeves for Dieppe.

Referee tonight is Calvin Dean.

7:03 p.m. -- Puck has dropped and we're underway. Chipman-Barron-O'Byrne the first line for the Ramblers, with Smith and Boudreau the defence pairing.

7:04 p.m. -- Wes Herrett moved up with Drew McLaughlin on the second defence pairing, so Brandon Mercer and Yohann Mathieu become the third unit. Other forward combos are Matthews-Orr-Bragg, Bissonnette-Coleman-Carson, and an all-rookie line of Estey-O'Neill-Colborne.

7:07 p.m. -- 3:22 gone. Ramblers with some pretty good jump to start this one. Dieppe with a young, small team that the hosts should match up well with.

7:09 p.m. -- First power play goes to Dieppe, with Zach Carson gone for slashing at 4:31.

7:11 p.m. -- Kody Orr generates a PP, getting tripped up to avoid a two-on-one while shorthanded. Luc LeBlanc goes at 6:10.

7:12 p.m. -- Carson's minor over. Amherst on the power play.

7:13 p.m. -- Back to five-on-five hockey very briefly before the Ramblers get another PP chance. Dillen Theriault will sit for slashing at 8:19.

7:16 p.m. -- Ramblers can't get established in the Dieppe zone on the PP. 31 seconds left in the minor.

7:17 p.m. -- Just as the Commandos kill that penalty, they get hit with another one. Dillen Theriault, who just stepped out of the box, gets two for checking from behind plus a game misconduct at 10:29.

7:20 p.m. -- Five-on-five again. Ramblers with a late flurry, as Derek Smith just missed the net on a shot Steeves didn't see, but not much else to boast about so far for Amherst's PP.

7:22 p.m. -- Brandon Mercer with a giveaway in the Ramblers end, and Waye gets a glove on Chuckie Schembri's wrister to save a goal.

7:23 p.m. -- Now Drew McLaughlin turns it over to Schembri inside his own blueline, but Schembri's shot sails wide.

7:26 p.m. -- 2:25 left in the period. Shots even at 9-9.

7:27 p.m. -- Waye bails his team out again. Simon Bissonnette with a weak clearing attempt in his own end, puck comes to Justin Legere all alone in front, but Waye gets the paddle down on the deke attempt.

7:28 p.m. -- Yohann Mathieu and Chuckie Schembri exchange words after a whistle. Probably not the last time they'll meet tonight.

7:29 p.m. -- Fourth Amherst PP of the period, as Andrew Taylor is whistled for hooking at 18:50.

7:30 p.m. -- In the final minute now.

7:31 p.m. -- Good give-and-go between Jeremy Barron and Zach Carson down low, but Steeves stops that.

7:32 p.m. -- Period over. Shots even at 11-11.

After 20 minutes -- Ramblers being handed opportunities to take charge of this game early, but the power play has sputtered. Dieppe has looked like the better team when its been five-on-five.

7:47 p.m. -- Second period underway. Ramblers with 49 seconds left on the PP.

7:47 p.m. -- And the Ramblers are on the board. Derek Smith pinches in on an odd-man rush, gets his own rebound and puts it underneath the crossbar at 27 seconds from a difficult angle. Assist to Scott Bragg. 1-0 Ramblers

7:51 p.m. -- Smart line matching from the Ramblers. The all-rookie unit gets pair with the veteran defensive combo of Smith and Boudreau, and it results in a good shift with a couple of scoring chances.

7:52 p.m. -- Justin Matthews gets a stick in the face from Chuckie Schembri, and he goes off at 3:08. Matthews back out on the PP with no damage.

7:53 p.m. -- Adam Chipman just misses a backhanded chance in close, as he was spun around by a Dieppe defender and the puck sailed wide.

7:54 p.m. -- Penalty over. Amherst now 1-for-5 with the extra man.

7:55 p.m. -- Had a feeling the next call would go Dieppe's way, and it does, as Yohann Mathieu goes for slashing at 5:52.

7:57 p.m. -- Ramblers score while shorthanded. Adam Chipman forces a turnover at the Amherst blueline and outraces a Dieppe defender to the puck for a breakaway, going low on the glove side at 6:52. Unassisted goal. 2-0 Ramblers

7:59 p.m. -- Amherst kills that penalty and gets one of its own. Andrew Taylor for tripping at 8:06. Just before that call, Kody Orr creates another turnover and his backhand attempt while being checked to the ice missed the far post by a hair. Ramblers with a chance to really take charge of this game here.

8:02 p.m. -- Poor call from Dean negates the PP. Dieppe defender runs into Kody Orr and Orr gets called for interference at 9:35.

8:02 p.m. -- Dieppe now with the extra man.

8:05 p.m. -- Marc Roper runs into Waye behind the Amherst net, but Dean gets in between them right away before the linesmen arrive to prevent the situation from escalating. Roper called for goalie interference at 11:32.

8:06 p.m. -- Orr's minor over. Amherst on the PP.

8:07 p.m. -- Some good work from Matthews, Chipman and Barron as a PP unit, generating a good scoring chance.

8:08 p.m. -- Good burst of speed from Kody Orr to get by a defender, but can't finish.

8:09 p.m. -- And more good work from the rookie line, but they can't finish either. An initial shot plus two rebounds are stopped by Steeves as Estey and O'Neill can't bury the puck on the top shelf with Steeves lying on his side in the crease.

8:11 p.m. -- Ramblers coming at Steeves in waves, trying to get that third goal to really put them in firm control of this one.

8:15 p.m. -- Power play opportunity wasted by the Ramblers. Chuckie Schembri called for holding, but Brandon Mercer whistled for throwing a punch while the teams were changing lines. Schembri had flattened Mercer as his penalty was being called and Dieppe was letting him know about it, so hence the retaliation. All this at 18:37.

8:18 p.m. -- Final minute of the period.

8:19 p.m. -- Late flurry by Dieppe to end the period, but Waye stands his ground. Ramblers will be a man down to start the third, with Wes Herrett called for roughing as the horn sounds. Shots 16-7 Amherst in the period, 27-18 Ramblers through two.

After 40 minutes -- Ramblers with one of their better periods of hockey this year and deserve to be up by more than two. The next goal is the big one -- either the Ramblers get it and really start to bury the Commandos, or Dieppe scores and despite taking too many penalties and being badly outplayed in that period, the visitors still have a chance to pull out a win.

8:36 p.m. -- Third period underway.

8:36 p.m. -- Dieppe's best chance to get back in this, as Adam Chipman goes for holding at 16 seconds. Commandos with a five-on-three for 1:44.

8:38 p.m. -- Some solid work from Orr, Smith and Boudreau on the PK. Smith tangled up with a Dieppe attacker on one sequence, but manages to shovel the puck out of the zone with his glove.

8:39 p.m. -- Waye with a toe save on a screened point shot as the second penalty expires. Big kill from the Ramblers, and they need to capitalize on that.

8:43 p.m. -- 13:54 to go. Faceoff to Waye's right.

8:45 p.m. -- Eric Boudreau gets his stick up and will sit at 6:30. Ramblers not making this easy.

8:47 p.m. -- Penalty over. Ramblers need to stay out of the box the rest of the period.

8:48 p.m. -- 10:39 left. Shots 5-0 Dieppe in the period.

8:49 p.m. -- Ramblers seem to think two goals is enough, as they're retreating into full prevent defence mode.

8:50 p.m. -- Waye kicks out the pad to stop a Lyndon Joseph one-timer from in close. Dieppe really pressing now.

8:52 p.m. -- Good shift from the line of Orr, Bragg and Matthews to establish presence in the Dieppe zone and give Waye a bit of a breather.

8:53 p.m. -- Another Dieppe PP, as Derek Smith sends Morgan Nicolas flying into the boards near the Amherst bench and gets called for tripping at 12:16.

8:53 p.m. -- Adam Chipman with another forced turnover and a breakaway, but Steeves shuts the door on the five-hole. That would've been a backbreaker.

8:55 p.m. -- 31 seconds left in Smith's minor. Faceoff at the Amherst blueline.

8:56 p.m. -- Waye flashes the glove to rob Andrew Taylor from the slot. Penalty over.

8:57 p.m. -- And the Ramblers get the big third goal that should put this one away. Scott Bragg feeds Kody Orr on a three-on-one, and Orr walks right down Main St., and tucks a wrister over Steeves' blocker at 14:29 . Yohann Mathieu with the second assist, his first point of the season. 3-0 Ramblers

8:59 p.m. -- Waye trying to preserve his first shutout of the season, gets a blocker on Chris Goguen's shot from the slot and sends that out of play.

9:01 p.m. -- Three minutes to go. Ramblers still working hard in the Dieppe end and not sitting back, which is good to see.

9:03 p.m. -- 1:32 to go. Faceoff to Waye's right.

9:04 p.m -- One minute left to get Waye his first goose egg.

9:05 p.m. -- And the Ramblers have ended their losing streak at three, and Waye picks up his first shutout in junior A hockey. Shots 13-5 Dieppe in the third, 32-31 Amherst for the night.

Three stars -- 1. Adam Chipman, Amherst; 2. Jon Waye, Amherst; 3. Robert Steeves, Dieppe. Thought Scott Bragg played very well tonight and deserved a star, but a minor quibble.

Final thoughts -- Ramblers did enough on offence to win, and Waye made the big saves when his team got into penalty trouble in the third period. Dieppe has struggled all year to score and a more offensively gifted team would've posed a greater threat, but two points is two points, and Amherst took care of business against a team it should beat on a consistent basis.

Jon Waye, who batted away the puck as the buzzer sounded and didn't keep a souvenir of his first junior A shutout: "After I did that, it clicked in that hey, maybe I should keep it, but then everyone came out to congratulate me and I don't know where it went after that. Get the next one, I guess."
