AMHERST - Three Ramblers will play for the Maritime Junior A Hockey League all-stars as part of the pre-tournament schedule for the World Junior A Challenge next month in Summerside.
Defencemen Derek Smith and Eric Boudreau, and forward Justin Matthews were named to the 22-man roster announced yesterday.
"It's a big opportunity to play at a high level, and I'm sure there'll be a lot of people watching," said Smith, 20, who has nine points in 10 games this season.
Ramblers coach and general manager Corey Crocker will serve as assistant coach for the Maritime team, which will face Canada East on Oct. 29 in Truro and Belarus on Oct. 30 in Amherst. Truro's Shawn Evans is the head coach, and Billy McGuigan of Miramichi the other assistant.
"It's a credit to our players that the league thought highly enough of them and showed confidence that they deserve to play in these games," said Crocker.
"All three of them have worked hard and it's gratifying to see that hard work pay off."
Hard work was not on display the last time the Ramblers hit the ice, falling behind 5-0 after 30 minutes en route to a 6-3 loss to the Pictou County Weeks Crushers a day after playing arguably their best game of the season in a 2-1 win over reigning MJAHL champion Summerside Western Capitals. The Ramblers have their work cut out for them tonight, taking a short-staffed lineup to Woodstock to face the 8-0-0-1 Slammers.
Defenceman Brandon Mercer (hip pointer) has joined forwards Jonathan Pardy (shoulder) and Scott Bragg (jaw) on the injured list. Forwards Josh Coleman, Zach Carson and Simon Bissonnette - the Ramblers' third line in the win over Summerside - are serving suspensions.
Forward Luke Warner, who plays for the Pictou County Weeks major midgets, is being called up for tonight's game. Defenceman Yohann Mathieu is expected to return after missing the last two contests with a nagging shoulder problem.
The Ramblers host the Yarmouth Mariners on Saturday at 7 p.m. Carson, Coleman and Bissonnette are eligible to return for that game.

It's the best of both worlds for me. I lived in Amherst for 16 years and loved the Ramblers! Whenever they are on the island, I try to make it to the games. I am always getting told, If you are going to cheer for THEM, go sit with their fans! WTG boys!

Great to see three Ramblers on the squad, I hope to take the game in Truro
on the 29th and watch them again here in Amherst on the 30th. I expect a fast
paced hard hitting game. Come on out to
the Stadium and enjoy some good exciting hockey . you will not be dissappointed. On another note I wish the short staffed squad all the best in
    Woodstock tonight.
