AMHERST -- The Ramblers (2-0-0-1) defeated the Pictou County Weeks Crushers (2-2-0-0) 4-3 in Maritime Junior A Hockey League action tonight at the Stadium.

Following is the webcast transcript.

6:40 p.m. -- Ramblers scratches are Eric Boudreau (still nursing ankle injury), Jonathan Pardy (shoulder, out until late October), Jordie Shaw (healthy) and Greg Taylor (healthy).

Starting goalies are Jon Waye for Amherst, and Alex Drake for Pictou County.

Referee is Jamie MacIsaac.

7:03 p.m. -- Puck has dropped and we're underway.

7:06 p.m. -- 2:33 gone, brisk pace to start this one.

7:09 p.m. -- Ramblers Simon Bissonnette with a nice play to force a turnover at centre ice and feed Justin Matthews for a scoring opportunity.

7:10 p.m. -- Ramblers forward units: Justin Matthews-Simon Bissonnette-Scott Bragg, Jeremy Barron-Adam Chipman-Josh Coleman, Kody Orr-Trevor Layton-Mitchell O'Neill, and Shane O'Byrne-Kodi Estey-Zach Carson; Defence: Drew McLaughlin-Yoann Mathieu, Brandon Mercer-Ryan Matheson, Derek Smith-Wes Herrett.

7:13 p.m. -- Ramblers hit the board first at the seven-minute mark. Scott Bragg gets the best revenge possible about 20 seconds after getting labelled by Pictou captain Geoff Hum on an open-ice hit. Assists to Derek Smith and Simon Bissonnette. The fiesty Bragg got hipchecked by the linesman while celebrating on his way back to the bench, too. 1-0 Ramblers.

7:17 p.m. -- Shots 7-4 Amherst with 10:27 left in the first.

7:18 p.m. -- Scott Bragg wants retribution for the Hum hit and drops his gloves and stick off the facoff looking to dance with someone, but gets no takers. He's not impressed, and lets anyone within earshot know. He also squirted some water in the direction of referee Jamie MacIsaac, who tosses him on top of the initial 10-minute misconduct at 10:27.

7:20 p.m. -- The game's first minor penalty goes to Pictou's Aaron Maas for interference at 10:06.

7:22 p.m. -- Penalty over, Ramblers can't muster a shot on goal.

7:25 p.m. -- 5:32 left in the first. Shots now 10-5 Amherst.

7:27 p.m. -- Good shift for the O'Byrne-Estey-Carson line to pin Pictou in its end for a good 20-25 seconds.

7:30 p.m . -- Ramblers on the PP again, as Pictou's Dan Joyce slashes Derek Smith in the neutral zone at 17:49.

7:32 p.m. -- Barron, Carson and Chipman one PP unit for Amherst; Orr, Bissonnette and Matthews another.

7:33 p.m. -- Penalty over. Ramblers PP not generating many quality chances.

7:34 p.m. -- Shane O'Byrne sent off for the Ramblers for hooking at 19:55. Yoann Mathieu of Amherst and Pictou's Cody Roland get two apiece for exchanging post-whistle pleasantries.

7:35 p.m. -- Period over. Shots 12-6 for Amherst.

After 20 minutes -- Ramblers playing responsible defensively and making life easy for Jon Waye in goal, as Pictou didn't have any real quality opportunities to score. Some chirping going on out there -- the Ramblers aren't happy that Bragg didn't get a dance partner and are letting the Crushers know about it.

7:50 p.m. -- Teams back on the ice to start the second period.

7:51 p.m. -- Second period underway. Pictou on the PP.

7:54 p.m. -- Penalty over. Crushers with just one shot on goal, a low shot to the glove side that Waye easily handled.

7:56 p.m. -- Ramblers up the lead, as Drew McLaughlin pinches in on an odd-man rush and is left unchecked to deposit a rebound off a Zach Carson shot upstairs at 3:59. Assists to Carson and Trevor Layton. 2-0 Ramblers.

7:59 p.m. -- Crushers bounce right back, as Ryan Neiderkorn's point shot beats a screened Waye at 5:33. Cody Roland and Geoff Hum get the assists. 2-1 Ramblers.

8:00 p.m. -- Tempers flaring again, as Waye is knocked down by Pictou's Ben Cameron near the end boards, drawing a crowd. Yoann Mathieu jumps to his defence and lays in some stiff cross-checks to Cameron and gets two for that plus two for roughing and a 10-minute misconduct, while the only penalized Pictou player is Ryan Fortune for roughing. All this at 5:38.

8:05 p.m. -- Pictou's Mitchell Maynard goes into the end boards hard and comes up woozy, needing help back to the bench. Pictou's Adam Slaunwhite and Amherst's Wes Herrett get two apiece for unsportsmanlike conduct after the whistle at 7:22.

8:06 p.m. -- Ramblers restore the two-goal cushion on a deflected point shot that Simon Bissonnette appeared to be the last Amherst player to touch at 8:09. Justin Matthews given credit, with assists to Drew McLaughlin and Trevor Layton. 3-1 Ramblers.

8:11 p.m. -- Shots 6-5 Amherst with 8:47 left in the period, 18-11 for the game.

8:16 p.m. -- Pace has settled down a bit. Coming up on the 15:00 mark.

8:18 p.m. -- 3:45 to go in the second.

8:21 p.m. -- 1:26 left in the second. Ramblers doing a good job keeping the Crushers to the perimeter of the offensive zone and Waye is giving up very few rebounds.

8:24 p.m. -- Second period over. Shots 13-9 Pictou in the second, 22-19 Amherst overall.

After 40 minutes -- Ramblers continue to play strong defensive hockey, but fell asleep offensively after the Matthews goal and haven't maintained much pressure in the Crushers end of the ice.

8:40 p.m. -- Teams back on the ice to start the third period.

8:41 p.m. -- Puck has dropped and we're underway.

8:42 p.m. -- Amherst's Zach Carson pastes a Pictou defender into the boards, unfortunately it was after the whistle. He gets two for roughing at 28 seconds.

8:43 p.m. -- Crushers hit the outside of the post on the PP.

8:45 p.m. -- Pictou is back within a goal, as Michael Hynes is left unchecked at the side of the net and tucks a rebound home at 2:13. Assists to Mathieu Boudreau and Mitchell Maynard. 3-2 Ramblers.

8:46 p.m. -- Ramblers now getting sloppy in their own end and it has cost them the lead, as Ryan Fortune scores at 3:10 to tie it. Assist to Ben Cameron. 3-3.

8:49 p.m. -- Shots 6-1 Pictou in the third, and we're 4:25 in.

8:55 p.m. -- Ramblers with some much-needed momentum, as Zach Carson's howitzer from the top of the faceoff circle screams past Drake at 8:04. Yoann Mathieu and Justin Matthews with the assists. Ramblers had been badly outplayed to that point in this period. 4-3 Ramblers.

9:00 p.m. -- 8:02 to go in the third. Shots 10-4 Pictou in the period, 29-26 Crushers overall.

9:03 p.m. -- 6:36 left. Ramblers in full prevent defence mode now.

9:05 p.m. -- A Zach Carson wrister catches Pictou defenceman Trent MacDonald square in the mush with 4:42 left, and he goes off clutching a towel to his face.

9:09 p.m . -- 3:08 remaining in the third. Faceoff in the Amherst zone.

9:11 p.m. -- Crushers push a loose puck just by the far post with about 2:00 left.

9:12 p.m. -- Pictou net is empty with 1:12 to go. Faceoff to Waye's right. Crushers call timeout.

9:14 p.m. -- In the final minute now.

9:15 p.m. -- 22.4 seconds left. Faceoff just outside the Amherst blueline. Ramblers call their timeout.

9:17 p.m. -- Ramblers hang on for the 4-3 decision. Shots 17-5 Pictou in the third, 36-27 Crushers for the game.

Three stars -- 1. Zach Carson, Amherst; 2. Drew McLaughlin, Amherst; 3. Michael Hynes, Pictou.

Final thoughts -- Amherst the better team for the first 30 minutes, Pictou for the last 30. Carson goal saved them, but Justin Matthews deserved at least one of the three starts, if not the first. Waye held his ground during the third-period seige, and continues to improve.

Post-game update -- The Ramblers are trying to nip a flu bug in the bud. Captain Adam Chipman was shut down in the third period, and head coach/general manager Corey Crocker is feeling the effects.
