Summerside starting goalie is Jared Kelly.

7:03 p.m. -- First period underway.

7:05 p.m. -- Summerside with a weak goal just 1:14 in, as a light backhander by Chad Earle bounces off a defenceman and past Nathan Kelly. Nathan DesRoches with the assist. 1-0 Capitals.

7:08 p.m. -- Trevor Carmichael is left unchecked in the slot and his wrist shot beats Nathan Kelly on the blocker side at 3:07. Assists to Harrison McIver and Darcy Ashley. 2-0 Capitals.

7:10 p.m. -- Ramblers bounce right back as Kodi Estey jabs home a rebound from the side of the net at 4:07. Assists to Jordie Shaw and Michael Clarke.. Summerside's Alex Gallant and the Ramblers' Justin Matthews exchange pleasantries on the ensuing faceoff and are both sent off for unsportsmanlike conduct. 2-1 Capitals.

7:13 p.m. -- Ramblers with the game's first PP, as Parker Deighan is sent off for interference at 4:59.

7:14 p.m. -- Ramblers convert with the man advantage on another scramble in front of the Summerside net at 6:33. Josh Coleman with the goal, from Derek Smith. 2-2

7:17 p.m. -- Summerside retakes the lead at 7:50 on another weak goal, as the puck bounced off an Amherst defender past Nathan Kelly, who has now given up three goals on six shots. Marshall Ellis credited with an unassisted marker. 3-2 Capitals.

7:19 p.m. -- No sooner was that last sentence typed than the Ramblers tie it again, as Adam Chipman bangs in a rebound on a goalmouth scramble at 8:56. Kody Orr with the assist, and Jared Kelly has allowed three goals on seven shots for Summerside. 3-3.

7:21 p.m. -- Ramblers with their first lead, as Zach Carson's howitzer from the top of the faceoff circle eludes Jared Kelly. Ryan Matheson with the assist at 9:37. 4-3 Ramblers.

7:25 p.m. -- Summerside gets its first PP, with Jeremy Barron sent off for high-sticking at 13:25.

7:27 p.m. -- Just announced an extra assist to Jeremy Barron on Amherst's third goal.

7:28 p.m. -- Ramblers down a man again, as Ryan Matheson is called for the cross-check at 15:28.

7:31 p.m. -- Good job from the PK units, as Summerside gets just one shot on goal in back-to-back kills.

7:31 p.m. -- Ramblers up their lead to two, as Matheson steps out of the box and joins an odd-man rush to set up Justin Matthews. Greg Taylor also picks up an assist at 17:36. 5-3 Ramblers.

7:33 p.m. -- Justin Matthews in the middle of a post-whistle scrum again, as he and Summerside's T.J. Campbell will sit two each for unsportsmanlike conduct at 18:42.

7:35 p.m. -- It's now a six-pack for the Ramblers, as Kody Orr deposits a rebound past Jared Kelly, who is having a night to forget. Yoann Mathieu and Adam Chipman with the assists at 19:08. 6-3 Ramblers.

7:36 p.m. -- We're not done yet. Summerside's Willey Whalen puts a screened shot past Nathan Kelly to cut the deficit to two at 19:48. Assists to Darcy Ashley and Harrison McIver. 6-4 Ramblers.

First period over. Shots are 14-9 Amherst.

Observations -- Just an atrocious period for anyone who is a fan of good defensive hockey. In other words, typical preseason fare. Not a lot of hitting, as nobody wants to get hurt in a game that doesn't mean anything. Good to see the Ramblers getting contributions from several lines. Ryan Matheson is a silky-smooth skater, and Kody Orr has shown flashes of brilliance.

7:53 p.m. -- Second period underway. Matthews and Campbell with 42 seconds left in their minors.

7:54 p.m. -- Penalty box is empty.

7:57 p.m. -- Ramblers line combinations: Matthews-Bissonnette-Layton, Barron-Chipman-Orr, Coleman-Carson-Landry, and Clarke-Shaw-Estey as the all-rookie line.

7:59 p.m. -- Yoann Mathieu of the Ramblers penalized for slashing at 4:02.

8:00 p.m. -- Summerside's Parker Deighan takes a stick to the face, and skates off in search of a trainer, leaving a small pool of blood on the ice. Capitals ask about a penalty, but none is forthcoming.

8:04 p.m. -- Ramblers kill off the minor and are pressing for another goal. Summerside's Willey Whelan limps off after blocking a shot off the outside of his skate.

8:08 p.m. -- Both teams change goalies with 10:16 left in the second and the shots at 21-13 for Amherst (7-4 Amherst for the period). Tyler Ferdinand in for the Ramblers, Travis Wilkins for Summerside.

8:12 p.m. -- Nice play by Rambler rookie defenceman Greg Taylor to hustle back as Summerside's Trevor Carmichael had a partial breakaway on a bad line change and get a stick on his slapshot and deflect it wide.

8:15 p.m. -- Ramblers defensive pairings: Mathieu and Matheson, Smith and Herrett, Taylor and Mercer.

8:16 p.m. -- A post-whistle meet-and-greet in front of the Ramblers net results in Kody Orr and Adam Chipman of the Ramblers being sent off, as well as Summerside's T.J. Campbell, all for roughing. Ramblers will play down a man at 14:23.

8:20 p.m. -- Kody Orr jumps out of the penalty box and fires a slick cross-crease pass to Zach Carson who bangs it home at 16:33. Orr easily the Ramblers best player so far tonight. Simon Bissonnette with the second assist. 7-4 Ramblers.

8:21 p.m. -- Alex Gallant of Summerside penalized for holding at 16:59.

8:24 p.m. -- Referee Kevin Arsenault really clamping down on post-whistle stuff, as Summerside's Parker Deighan and Amherst's Jordie Shaw are sent off for roughing and holding, respectively, at 17:27.

8:24 p.m. -- Amherst's Yoann Mathieu rings a slapper off the crossbar on the PP.

8:26 p.m. -- More Orr magic, as Adam Chipman outworks a Summerside defender down low to force a turnover, and Orr scoops up the loose puck and stuffs it in from the side of the net at 19:02. 8-4 Ramblers. Tremendous chemistry between these two, and one would think both players are in line for letters on their jerseys this season.

8:28 p.m. -- Ramblers with another PP to end the period, as Trevor Carmichael gets two for slashing at 19:47.

Second period over. Shots 22-15 for Amherst in the period, 36-24 overall.

Observations -- Orr and Chipman have been dynamite together, as have Matthews and Layton. Mathieu not the quickest defencemen out there, but a big body who can clear traffic. Nathan Kelly settled in for his time in the second, and Ferdinand has looked solid.

8:44 p.m. -- Third period underway. 1:46 to go in Carmichael's penalty.

8:46 p.m. -- Wilkins with a nice glove save on Justin Matthews.

8:47 p.m. -- Capitals with a successful PK.

8:53 p.m. -- Ramblers doing some line-juggling. Orr with Carson and Barron. Landry on a rookie line with Clarke and Shaw. Matthews with Chipman and Bissonnette.

8:55 p.m. -- Coincidental minors called at 7:22 -- Summerside's Nathan DesRoches for holding and Amherst's Derek Smith for interference.

8:57 p.m. -- Ramblers now shorthanded, with Jordie Shaw called for the cross-check at 8:17.

9:00 p.m. -- Penalty successfully killed. Shots 9-6 Amherst in the period.

9:00 p.m. -- First fight of the night at 10:32, as Yoann Mathieu and Willey Whalen drop 'em. Not much to it, as Mathieu used his superior height and reach to keep Whalen at bay, but really didn't land many big blows of his own.

9:03 p.m. -- Summerside's Parker Deighan sent off again, this time for hooking at 11:07.

9:05 p.m. -- Rookies for Amherst seeing a lot more ice time in the third period.

9:06 p.m. -- Penalty expired. Teams at full strength.

9:07 p.m. -- Summerside shorthanded again, Brandon Carter for hooking at 13:56.

9:08 p.m. -- Ouch! Summerside's T.J. Campbell just blocked a shot with his face -- immediately heads off for medical attention.

9:09 p.m. -- Tyler Ferdinand flashes some leather to snare a wrist shot. Pitching a shutout while he's been in there.

9:10 p.m. -- Ramblers with their 50th shot on goal. Penalty almost over.

9:11 p.m. -- Penalty expires. Teams at full strength.

9:12 p.m. -- Ramblers' Simon Bissonnette penalized for elbowing at 16:18.

9:15 p.m. -- Summerside scores at 18:38. Dacry Ashley from Jason Cameron and Parker Deighan. 8-5 Ramblers.

9:17 p.m. -- Ferdinand lets in a bad one with 11.7 seconds left, as Trevor Carmichael scores from a poor angle. James Williams with the assist. 8-6 Ramblers.

9:18 p.m. -- Amherst's Derek Smith and T.J. Campbell of Summerside finish off the two-fight card, with Smith getting the upper hand.

Ramblers win 8-6. Shots were 14 apiece in the third, and 50-38 for the game.

My picks for three stars -- 1. Kody Orr, 2. Adam Chipman, 3. Darcy Ashley. Official ones were -- 1. Chipman, 2. Orr, 3. Zach Carson.

Ramblers are in Dieppe to finish off the preseason Sunday at 2 p.m.
