AMHERST - Returning and prospective new members of the Maritime Junior A Hockey League's Amherst Ramblers were put through their paces as the club opened training camp Saturday.
The first intersquad game was held last night, with another scheduled for this evening.
"We're happy with what we've seen so far," Ramblers head coach and general manager Corey Crocker said. "Players are shaking the rust off and starting to get in the swing of things."
The dress list for Tuesday's preseason home opener against the Dieppe Commandos is expected to be finalized today. Few, if any, veteran players are expected to suit up for either team.
Among those not in camp this weekend were goalie Andrew Caines (likely to play junior B in Newfoundland), defenceman Drew McLaughlin (at Western Hockey League's Edmonton Oil Kings camp), and forwards Jonathan Pardy (injured, expected to return in October), Jordie Shaw (injured, expected later this week), Derick Miles (injured, expected later this week), Daniel McNeil (attending baseball academy in Alberta) and Devon Muir (playing major midget in Cape Breton).
Forwards Kody Orr and Simon Bissonnette remain at Quebec major junior camps with Halifax and Lewiston, respectively.

Visited the Stadium yesterday and was
impressed with the skill levels displayed
by all the players trying for a spot on this years team. Skating/passing and
    shooting drills were above average.
Have a good year and bring out the crowds with you excellent playmaking.

I dropped into the rink this morning and
watched the practice for awhile, noticed some excellent talent doing drills like
    passing/skating and shooting. Looks like
potential for a well rounded team. Their
    four upcoming exhibition games should
help decide who stays and who the cuts
are. I wish the team all the best in league play. GO RAMBLERS GO!!!!
