Oxford mayor looks back
Oxford - Reflecting on 2008, Oxford Mayor Lloyd Jenkins said the biggest accomplishment the town saw was renovations to the arena.
Over the course of 2008, Oxford residents saw new lighting installed, a new reflective insulated ceiling, new paint and new dehumidifiers in the building, Jenkins said. There has been at least a 50 per cent increase of arena use since the 2008 renovations were carried out.
Although the numbers were not what Jenkins expected because of a minor hockey enrollment decrease throughout the county, he remains pleased with the overall increase at Oxfords arena.
In the upcoming year, the town plans to continue to move forward with its Main Street beautification project that began two years ago, although it will not see the opening of its new P-12 school as scheduled.
The mayor said, although he was a little disappointed that Oxfords new school wouldnt be opening its doors in September of 2009, as previously thought, he is eager to see the new school open in February of 2010.
Oxford residents also saw the Lions Club complete a major expansion at the Lions Park, where residents and tourists alike can enjoy the new playground equipment, Jenkins said.
