Weather wreaks havoc on first tourney weekend

Parrsboro - Winter weather conditions put a damper on Parrsboro Minor Hockeys 10th annual Harrisons tournament this past weekend.

The Parrsboro atom, peewee and bantam girls teams were scheduled to play over the weekend but, due to weather conditions, the only games over the weekend were in the peewee division.

The Parrsboro pewee team played against Debert Friday evening, but because of the storm that came early Saturday morning, the only remaining team that participated was the Lunenburg Falcons, Parrsboro Minor Hockey presidentMatt Smith said. They had traveled from Lunenburg and were staying at a hotel in Amherst and were anxious play in the tournament, therefore once roads were passable it was decided to carry out the tournament for at least the peewee division.

The Parrsboro Predators played the Lunenburg Falcons in two back-to-back games. After being defeated in the first game, the Predators came back and took the second game, tying the two teams for the finals.

On Sunday, Lunenburg skated away with the banner after winning with a final score of 6-4.

Unfortunately the weather didnt cooperate with us this past weekend, Smith said.

We moved the tournament from January to November in hopes of having better weather this time of year, but I guess that didnt work so well.

This coming weekend, the bantam boys and midget boys division are set to play and minor hockeys president said the atoms and the bantam girls games for the tournament will have to be scheduled for a later date depending on availability for ice time and team availability.
