SPRINGHILL - It was a tale of two towns and two different Cool Blues teams showing up to play hockey.
On Friday in Springhill, the Cool Blues were having fits and starts against the Bay Ducks and by the end of the second period the score was 4-4.
By the time the game was over, however, the Blues won the game 9-4 by scoring five unanswered goals in the third period.
On Saturday in Glace Bay, the Blues were ahead 4-1 after the first period but ended up losing 7-6 to the Canadians.
"I guess the best way to describe the weekend was we showed great signs on offense but on defense we have work to do," Cool Blue coach Dave Hyatt said. "If we're going to have success in this league, we're going to have to tighten our game up defensively."
Ryan Smith had a big weekend for the Blues by scoring four goals and marking up one assist.
Having a two-goal weekend for the Blues were Cody Roach, David Burke, Jordie Shaw and Ryan Kay, who scored two goals and had an assist against the Bay Ducks.
The Blues also had a lot of shots on goal this weekend.
Against the Bay Ducks they had 54 shots to the Ducks 29 and they had 60 shots to the Canadiens 28.
"We gave a few quality chances that really cost us," Hyatt said.
"It's not just our defence and it's not our goaltending we need a commitment on defense from the entire team."
