ANTIGONISH -They say it's not over until it's over. Well, the 2007/ 2008 season is officially over for the Cumberland County Cool Blues.
Try as they might, they lost last night in Antigonish by a score of 4-1, giving the Bulldogs a four game sweep in the Sid Rowe Division final and thereby forcing them to pack away their hockey equipment until September.
Despite the sweep coach Ron Reynolds want his team to hold their heads high.
"We have a great bunch of kids and the future is bright for the organization," Reynolds said. "We'll get over it. Next year we'll improve a little more."
The Blues knew the series against the Bulldogs wouldn't be easy.
Coming in we knew we were up against a good team," Reynolds added. "We ran into a hot, hot goaltender. Not taking anything away from Antigonish they played one hell of a series, but Axford was amazing. I think we fired over 200 shots on him in four games and only managed to score seven goals."
Over 100 fans went down to Antigonish for the game last night and many were left wondering how a team that finished on top during the regular season struggled throughout the playoffs.
"We had a few injuries and we had a few kids away," Reynolds said. "But overall it was a good series. I'm proud of all of our boys. We worked hard. We played hard. We have to look at this year as being very positive we finished first overall. Sure we're disappointed but there's always winners and losers and we just have to keep our heads high."
Reynolds said he will miss they're captain.
"It was a pleasure to have Hughie," Reynolds added. "When I went to sign him in Amherst it was probably one of the best signings I ever did you can't say enough good things about Hughie. I hope he stays around Springhill."
