SPRINGHILL - Overcome, adapt and improvise is the battle plan adopted by soldiers in the heat of battle and it will be no different tonight when the Cumberland County Cool Blues take on the Antigonish Bulldogs in the first game of Sid Rowe divisional finals at the Richard Calder Arena.
"The Bulldogs are a fast team and they'll be coming hard and throwing all four lines at us tonight," Cool Blue coach Ron Reynolds said. "So we don't want to take a shift off against them or we'll pay the price."
Fans can expect a very close match-up.
"They play the same type of style we play," Reynolds said. "We both have four strong lines that never quit and we both come out hitting hard. I think it will be a great series for the fans."
Reynolds said nothing should be taken for granted at this stage in the playoffs.
"Come playoff time it takes an effort from everyone to win a series. The boys need to keep the intensity level up and go out and work hard every shift."
Playing backup goaltender for Matt Kimber tonight will be Jessie Ogden who came up from Midget AAA Ramblers.
"We put an appeal into Hockey Canada about our goaltending situation, but we just got word yesterday from Hockey Canada that they don't have the jurisdiction to hear the case," Reynolds said. "If Hockey Canada doesn't have the jurisdiction, then who does? We did the proper thing with the appeal process but we've hit a stumbling block. It seems nobody wants to touch the case."
A new backup goal tender was brought into the Blues' organization after Landon Crowe broke his kneecap in a car accident.
Game two in the best of seven series in Sunday in Antigonish, then the Blues return home for game three on Tuesday.
The winner of the Sid Rowe finals will play against the winner of the Fred Fox Division final between East Hants and Windsor.
