Blues take charge in semifinals
SPRINGHILL: The Cool Blues are off to a good start in their best-of-seven Sid Rowe Division semifinal series against the Pictou County Scotians.
Last Friday night they opened the playoffs at the Richard Calder Arena with a crushing 6-1 win over the Scotians, then on Sunday they traveled to Pictou and took a 2-0 lead in the series after defeating the Scotians by a score of 8-5.
Despite the lead in the series, Cool Blues Coach Ron Reynolds doesn't want the Cool Blues to let go of the stranglehold they have on Pictou County.
"Pictou will be playing like it's a game seven for the rest of the series," Reynolds said.
Reynolds is looking for a disciplined Cool Blues team to make the road to redemption as difficult as possible for the Scotians.
"We don't want to take penalties in the offensive zone and we don't want to take retaliation penalties," Reynolds said. "We've done that a few times in these playoffs, but we'll get better as the series goes on."
On Sunday night Cody Roach wracked up the point total with two goals and two assists while Mark Rozak had two goals plus an assist of his own.
The deeper his team goes into the playoff territory, the more sharp and aggressive Reynolds wants his team to become.
"We want to play the body hard, that's for sure. That's always part of the game plan," Reynolds said. "Take the body to them as hard as we can and go from there.
"We want to play sound defensively and act on our opportunities. If we do all the little things right and keep plugging away, we should be successful."
Scores for Tuesday night's game weren't available as of press time.
The Cool Blues play in Trenton tonight.
If they don't wrap the series up tonight, they will play game 5 on Friday night at the Richard Calder Arena.
