SPRINGHILL - From the minute he came to Springhill, Cumberland?County Cool Blue forward Cody Roach established himself as, not only one of the best natural talents in Junior B hockey, but also as a favourite among fans.
Now in his second year with the Blues, Roach has continued to blast his way through the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League with 63 points - 17 goals and 46 assists - and is now more popular with fans than ever.
"We are very fortunate to have Cody on our team, he's a treat to watch," Cool Blues coach Ron Reynolds said. "I put him in the top three players in the league, that's for sure."
The 19 year-old has 20 more points than he had at this time last year.
"I have more points because we have a better team than we had last year," Roach said.
Roach calls himself a shooter and a playmaker, but Reynolds says he's much more than that.
"He brings an intensity to the game every time he steps on the ice," Reynolds said. "When a player is intense, it means they're in the game, so I expect him to get better as the playoffs go on."
Anybody who has seen Roach burst from the gates like a caged animal knows what Reynolds is talking about, but Roach said he simply plays with a strong desire to win.
"I can't say I get psyched up for a game in any major way," Roach said. "I just get focused."
