Springhill - SPRINGHILL: With every day drawing closer to an end between the Sid Rowe and Fred Fox Division for the 2007-2008 season the Cumberland County Blues set out to prove they're not giving an inch of the ground they've gained in what's been a banner year for the team when they squared off against the Straight Pirates in Springhill Friday night.
Dave Burke opened the first for the Blues with an assist from Cody Roach and then Mark Rozak with a pass from Andrew Brennan. Ryan Kay closed the opening period, 3-0, for the Blues.
In the second the Straight Pirates finally found themselves on the scoreboard but Rozak, maintaining the Blues three-point lead, responded to the challenge with an assist from Ryan Smith and then Ryan Smith moved the Blues again, on the power play, before the Pirates could slip in one more goal.
Opening the third, 5-2, Blues Cody Firth netted a pass off Seth Crowe and Nathan Lavigne and then Crowe moved on his own an sunk an unassisted goal, virtually wipingthe life out Pirates game and any chance of making a comeback.
Shots on goal were 24 Blues, 33 Pirates.
The Blues next play Sunday when they hit the road to face off against the Antigonish Bulldogs.
